New Dizzee Rascal Video - "Dance Wiv Me"

thumbnail icon: New Dizzee Rascal Video - "Dance Wiv Me"

While watching the video for Dizzee Rascal's "Dance Wiv Me," I was taken aback by how naturally charismatic the guy is, that he can make silly lines like "you have to let me get behind your backbone," followed by a suggestive doggie-style hip thrusts, into charming moments. It's a charm Kanye, for example, attempts to cultivate via collecting hep knicknacks, while still projecting the personality of a whiny cardboard box. Then again, people like overcompensation -- makes us feel better about ourselves. That said, take a look at this cocktail-sipping Mark Anthony-directed clip for "Dance Wiv Me." The song, which isn't on Maths + English, features Calvin Harris as the bartender/chorus singer, Chrome as Dizzee's left-hand man, and Dizzee as the guy who charms the girl by smiling whenever he makes a joke, dirty or otherwise. There's also a guy in a pimp hat doing the things guys in pimp hats usually do in hip-hop videos.

OK, so this is definitely Dizzee's most commercial-sounding track to date. It'll be interesting to see if it's able to make a ripple Stateside.

"Dance Wiv Me" me is out 7/7 on Dizzee's Dirtee Stank Recordings.

Song is harmless fun. Video is generic drivel.
