New Emma Pollock Video - "Acid Test"

Scottish indie heroes the Delgados called it quits in '05, but Emma Pollock's kept busy, continuing to work on Chemikal Underground (the label founded by fellow Delgado folks) and piecing together a solo LP, which sees release next week on 4AD. She told P4K "It's totally, unashamedly pop and it doesn't pretend to be anything else." Fair enough, at least for "Acid Test," which starts with some percussive guitar pop before moving into a hazier hook, all while a houses of all sorts get built up around her.

Here's another taste of the LP, the delicate acoustic fingerpicker "Limbs," showcasing Emma's crystalline, vulnerable vox singing of fragile limbs that "can break like branches."

Emma's Watch The Fireworks is out 9/11 on 4AD.

I saw Emma play with Jaime (piano) in Brooklyn last March and it was beautiful - a full preview of the new album. It's a record that stands on its own, as if she were a new artist and not a former member of. It was the smart route and she also doesn't play Delgados songs live which I think is wise and admirable. This coming from one of the biggest Delgados fans out there.

She's opening for The New Pornographers on one leg of their fall tour.
