New Empire Of The Sun Video - "Walking On A Dream"

thumbnail icon: New Empire Of The Sun Video - "Walking On A Dream"

Empire Of The Sun is the Australian duo of the Sleepy Jackson's Luke Steele and PNAU's Nick Littlemore. They have a self-titled debut out this fall and a video for "Walking On A Dream" out now. Fitting with the band's moniker, the clip for the sugary love song ("I can feel it / When two people become one") was shot in Shanghai. The song itself includes a pretty catchy pop hook ("We are always running for the thrill of it thrill of it / Always pushing up the hill searching for the thrill of it"), the video plenty of dramatic tongue-in-cheek mugging from the twosome.

Feel free to take the track to outside of Japan:

In that book/movie the rich British kid, who's living in Shanghai, gets a reality check when Japan, who were occupying China at the time, declare war against the US and allies (WWII). It's tied into the Second Sino-Japanese War, etc.

Gabriel Genesis has been my GUILTY pleasure through all past winter. You just have to let your guard down and have SOME degree of imagination or respect.

ah well that makes more sense now. Good track all in all - as a historian who hasn't read the book the reference was lost on me.

Beatiful video and catchy song! I'm glad Luke Steele is still singing. Now I need to check out PNAU. The movie 'Empire Under the Sun' is recommended for any history buff.... an innocent rich British boy trapped in Shanghai.

What a letdown! I've been listening to these guys' insanely awesome album the last couple days and was expecting bigger things than this conventional slo-mo, 3 setting, hipster music video. The album cover art implied that they had some exciting creative ideas. What a brilliant reference to these 70s-80s sci-fi films/novels.. I was hoping there would be a really coherent but varied world that they had created to back up this imagery. Like I was thinking the ultimate would be a Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome epic desert sci-fi scenarios going on. Oh well. Everything except this video is awesome. I was just hoping for the second coming.
