New Erykah Badu Video - "Honey"

It's been just about eight years since Badu's dropped a full-length izm, so no surprise she's exiting her extended gestational period with an 18-track double-decker to accompany that trademark afro back into the spotlight. There's a grab bag of producers in tow (including the ever-generous Madlib), although it's 9th Wonder who brings the throwback '70s funky sounds to "Honey," which is allowing us a sweetly extended retro eruption this morning. The vid (which is awesome) fits the vibe: a trip through a record store with Erykah putting herself in the middle of classic album covers, changing up the hair everywhere from Paid In Full to Let It Be. Sleeveface is so last year; gimme gimme Baduface.

"Honey"'s coming from New Amerykah, which is out 2/28 on Motown/Universal. Check them knuckles, sucka.

that was a cool concept but whoever made that video was just plain lazy - what a waste of a great idea.

I can't stop listening to, humming, getting down to, thinking about The Healer. It's just right.

I think Erykah is beautiful, I'm enjoying her new change....changes. The video is magnifienct and the song beyond compare. I Love Erykah to the extent that I know that when she's gone for a while, it's not because she "fell off" it's because she's busy doing somthing else productive and beautiful. I just indulge in her previous CD's until she comes out with somthing new. I have all of the CD's.

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
