New Everclear Video - "Hater"

Art Alexakis makes a bid for relevance with a controversial clip for the band's new break-up song. For the video, the song's theme was broadened and is now dedicated "to Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and all others who hate in the name of Jesus."

Ifilm says: "The content you requested is intended for viewing by mature audiences only. Some viewers may be offended by the content." We have to be 18 or over!

I'm about to stream now. Let's watch together. I hope it's more controversial than Connie Chung Sings.

"Hater Jesus" has an impossible 8.5 billion friends. First MySpace profile featured in a music video? (Sadly, I don't think we're getting one from Hope Against Hope.)

Everclear's Welcome to the Drama Club is out 9/12.

art should start doing heroin again.
that was brutal.
how many ways can you recycle the same damn chords, phrasing, and "melody" (at an admittedly different tempo) into different songs.

i used to really like everclear, in the 90's. this song and video are absolute trash though. and it is true, repetitive as hell. the guy needs other people to start writing his songs, unless he wants it to be career over, well, even more than it already is.

What a cheap way to cash in on rock and roll's favorite whipping boy. What's next, Everclear takes on cops? How about their parents?

What's shocking is how fucking lazy the actual song is. The video, while vaguely entertaining, mostly serves to help viewers ignore the fact that this is the worst song Everclear's ever recorded - and that's saying A LOT.

Yeah wow, this is just horrible. Everclear has always been slightly generic but this goes way beyond that.

That's some real nice Internet security there on IFilms. An easily ignorable waiver warning over a continue button! "OK, we'll show you the porn as long as you're 18, but you have to pinky swear." That was just as entertaining as any video. Speaking of "Haters," why all the hatin' on Everclear? Give me some good ol' sem-bland, average 90's alt. rock any day.

I'm worried now . . . I used to really like Everclear, and I still listen to alot of their older stuff, but yes, when you get into more "modern" Everclear you enter The Sucking.

Problem is, I was too lazy to go get my headphones, so I just watched that video sans sound. You know, like that it was just a cool, funny short film, and I rather enjoyed it . . . but now, considering the comments here, I'm fearful that the actual song is nowhere near as awesome as the music I imagined in my head was. Hmmm. Maybe I should find an older Everclear song that's around the same length . . .

So.. that didn't really seem like it had any political/religious message, it was just a guy dressed like Jesus being an asshole. So what was up with the whole "Yeah, this video is a 'fuck you' to the religious right!" thing? I kind of hope that they just added that to sound interesting and opinionated, because if the deeper meaning of a video like THAT went over my head, I'm going to feel kind of retarded.

since both the band and the topics within are completely over and trite, let's have a discussion about stuff that didn't affect us in 1996...

if you don't like everclear's music. It's simple. Don't listen to it. just quit bitching about it. no one wants to hear it. it's their band. they can do what they want. and they obviously don't give two fucks about what you "haters" say.

Everclear WAS the best band ever, and Hater is not so bad ... but they did better songs before.
Now we just have to wait to see if the whole "new album" is talking about breaking-up...
well, if it don't, that's a good point in Art's career.

I didn't like the video. Honestly, I thought it was tasteless. I think they could have portrayed the message in a more meaningful way. This doesn't make people think or reflect. It just fuels hate for others...in my opinion. Life's too short to hate.

i like this new song by everclear and i can't wait for the new album to come out. yeah, the video is a little weird, but hey, who cares! the only thing that sucks is that the video probably won't be on MTV because of the nudity and stuff.

Remember the lame asses in high school that were I drama and/or choir and swore they were going to get a band together. Well Art made good on his promise and started a marginally talented band at a time when mediocrity in music was an attribute. Now, in an attempt to reinvent himself he decides to stir the shit pot saying Jesus is the bully who stole his lunch money. You go Art (pencil necked geek) and shake your bony little fist at the one and only Son of God. I am sure God is rethinking the whole program now!

“God is dead.”

It's interesting... replace Jesus with Mohammed in this same video, and we would have riots all over the world. The danish cartoons were nothing compared to this. But Christ forgave even those who crucified Him, and we all should do the same.

Even so this piece of Shit video is deeply offensive to Christians. It's every bit as sick as painting swastika's on someone's door or burning crosses outside a house.

But whatever... I'm sorry that things have happened in Art's life to make him hate people like me. I hope he can see past those who may have hurt him with their hypocrasy to Christ himself.

Meh, I'm a Christian, and I'm not offended. I feel like I was just insulted by a retarded three-year-old with a speech impediment. All I need to do is shrug, and I've made the btter point. Nicely done, Everclear, you've proved, well...nothing.

i've been a big fan of everclear for as long as i can remember. i have all of their albums, i've been to 2 shows, and i've even met the band backstage at one of the shows. i was pretty dissapointed in 'slow motion daydream', but i was pumped to hear that their new album was going to be more rock and less pop and weird sound effects. i like the songs i've heard on their myspace page, but after seeing this tasteless video, i think i'm done with everclear. good job on losing a loyal fan.

I hope you trinity freaks remember that the US was founded by the sons of liberty and appreciate that you have a voice in this country. Remember the KING JAMES VERSION of the Bible is a printed theoretical, rhetoric and your faith is based upon that theory. Save your problems for your pastors and keep your opinions in your pockets--quit wearing them!!!!!!!!!
