New Fiery Furnaces Video - "Navy Nurse" (Stereogum Premiere)

When the Fiery Friedbergers gave us "Ex Guru" in video form, we found ourselves stranded in the forest with some shadowy ascetic types and mystical kitties. This time around, in the Moses Berkson-directed "Navy Nurse," Eleanor goes it solo, doing some sort of young woman and the sea thing, reading on a ferry, doing underwater ballet, playing solitaire, and hanging out on a rocky coast, only some birds (real, statuary) and passing strangers for company. Why so lonesome? Remember, this is Widow City.

Good to see at least a couple smiles in there, but one thing: There are all sorts of water vessels -- tankers, steamers, barges, speeders, sail -- but not a sign of a blueberry boat. At least Eleanor's bathing suit is the right color.

Widow City is out on Thrill Jockey. Europeans and North Americans, take note:

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...

Premature Evaluation: of Montreal - Skeletal Lamping

Skeletal Lamping is anything but skeletal. When we took a close listen to album closer "Id Engager" we mentioned it wasn't the strangest, most ambitious, or best tune on of Montreal's new one, but after absorbing the other 14 tracks,...
