New Fountains Of Wayne Video - "Someone To Love"

After boldly proclaiming festival know it all Demetri Martin to be the new Rachel Hunter, finally we've got the videographic goods -- though Demetri's turn as FoW show star is considerably less arousing, save his living room dance in skin-tight long johns (zexy). No happy endings here, though Seth Shapiro looks like he could use one.

Fountains fans should give up on Conan in San Fran for a night and check in with Craig Ferguson, who's got the band as tonight's musical guest. Demetri not included.

Demetri's funny and the girl's cute, but why does guitarist-whose-name-I-can't-remember look like Lily Tomlin?

Yeah, Anyone remember the song "Sink to the Bottom"? Fountains of Wayne are so talented at writing catchy hooks. They are totally stuck in a rut though, and don't know where to go with that talent.

Not a great video, IMHO.
But these guys are pop geniuses!
The critics complain... but what's wrong with writing consistently witty, well structured, melodic songs? (Besides never getting any airplay! - ha!)

Love the FOW, but this song and this video is terrible spice.

Not to belabor a point that has been made here many times, but yes, FoW has a ton of talent. However, they not only fail to make any sort of songwriting progress on this 4th record (Traffic and Weather) but they instead start to insult their listeners. I have been with them since "Radiation Vibe." Their first record, their second, and even their third all had good to great songs.

But to release another almost filled almost entirely with condescending songs about fictional characters (Someone to Love is a fair enough examples), well, it's insulting. They have a ton of talent but for chrissakes do something productive with it.

I have listened to Traffic and Weather twice, but that's it. I am finished with this band until they can make a modicum of artistic improvement.

i love fountains of wayne, and have for years. i feel like they've made a lot of progression too, but some people may not like where they are going with their sound.
i gotta say, i like the earlier albums better, but traffic and weather is still catchy and enjoyable, as should be expected.
