New Germs Biopic Includes Fake Blood, Breakaway Glass
As anyone who's listened to the music, done their Darby Crash research (he killed himself the night before Lennon was shot), watched The Decline of Western Civilization, or read Lexicon Devil knows, the Germs didn't fuck around. That said, it'll be interesting to see how the L.A. punk band's attitude and energy translates to the big screen in What We Do Is Secret. Judging from the trailer at least, we'll get a ton of broken glass, some fake blood, a few poignant moments, and a guy with a strange Rodney Bingenheimer wig. If you changed the country, the wardrobe, and the vocalist's approach to self-destruction, it could very well be Control. Watch:
Surprise, the Germs have actually gotten back together with Shane West, who plays Crash in the film, as their new singer. Holy INXS: Rock Star. Best of luck and all, but something (common sense?) tells me they won't have the same visceral impact as the original Germs, regardless of how well Pat Smear and Lorna Doom have held up. No comment on Don Bolles.
What We Do Is Secret premieres in NYC on 8/8, 8/15 in Chicago and Pittsburgh, and 8/22 in L.A. You can read up on further dates and the reunited Germs Warped Tour dates (for real) at the film's official site.

They've actually been playing shows with Shane since 2005. I saw them at the Continental (back when they still had shows) with Shane. They band was awesome but yeah, Shane was clearly acting. It wasn't terrible but the forced rock star poses were dumb.

know what's funny, the screenwriters didnt do their homework - the band predates veggie burgers. via wiki:
The first veggie burger was created, in London, by Gregory Sams in 1982, calling it the 'VegeBurger'. Gregory and his brother Craig had run a famous natural food restaurant in Paddington since the 1960s[2]. A Carrefour hypermarket in Southampton sold 2000 packets in three weeks after its launch, which was reported in The Observer newspaper on February 27, 1983[3].

really? impossibilities and inconsistencies in a film?
and I thought LOTR was based on English history.
historical continuity goes bye bye in favor of art. And knowing Don Bolles, I'll bet that he convinced the filmmakers that that was what he said.
(btw - I am sure there are far more egregious sins of the script than the "veggie-burger" comment - artistic license to guesstimate what Darby was saying in certain scenes with no corroboration by parties that were privy to it.)

I first heard about this movie around 99 or 2000, when David Arquette was supposed to play Darby. It's hard to believe that it's finally coming out, but it looks like it might suck. And why the fuck would the Germs even ATTEMPT to reunite without Darby? He wrote all the lyrics, and his distinctive fucked up personality defined the band. I have to admit that it's cool to see Pat Smear playing Germs songs again, but it's also makes him look like a total whore.

I too was skeptical when I heard about this movie, but I saw it at the Gasparilla film fest and I was really surprised by how good it was. The show scenes were fun to watch and I think the punk scene was accurately represented. I heard that Shane West was actually in a punk band before this movie.

Weak. "This could very well be CONTROL"??? Are we talking about the Joy Division movie or the Janet Jackson album?
