New Goldfrapp Video - "Happiness"

thumbnail icon: New Goldfrapp Video - "Happiness"

Happiness is a guy pogoing down the street in white formalwear. With legs where the pogo stick should be. Will and Alison took some chances with the smoothed and yes happy new record, and it hasn't been to everyone's liking after what they'd come to expect of the black cherry girl, but we've found Seventh Tree to be perfect music for Sunday mornings. This video -- directed by Dougal Wilson -- echoes those good daylight vibes and plays like an extended, joyous shot, interrupted only by conveniently intruding bus stands, phone booths, and shoulders. When the action finally pans from the floppy-haired hopper, we're reminded that Goldfrapp haven't forgotten that things aren't always as cute as bike tricks, dancing leaves, and bouncing dogs, so if you want their next one to be more moody, there's hope for you, too.

Seventh Tree is out via Mute. Meanwhile you can buy the "Happiness" Bundle, a grouping of "Happiness" in a couple of formats (CD single and 7" picture disc) along with some exclusive remixes, including a take on "Eat Yourself" by Yeasayer and a mix of "Monster Love" compliments of Spiritualized. If you just can't wait, here are some 37 second slices:

The song is lovely, and the colors of the video are great, but am I the only one that thinks its kinda boring? And derivative of previous Kylie/Bjork efforts?

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
