New Grizzly Bear - "While You Wait For The Others"

Grizzly Bear couldn't have planned a better run on the back of Yellow House. 2007 saw the record pick up a second (third, fourth) wind before the band finally elbowed their own record out of the way with the Friend EP in November. That's about when they played that classic New York Society for Ethical Culture gig which showed not only how far they'd come but where they were going, closing the set with an untitled, awesome new Dan tune. Two days later when we saw 'em at the Virgin Megastore in-store (which really was their last show of the Yellow/Friend chapter), we already knew the melody, changes, turns, etc. It was memorable, a big part of why that NYSEC gig was our favorite of 2007, and now it has a name and, thanks to yesterday's KCRW session, some A/V enjoyability.

Threads through to their love for old '60s pop in the harmonic feel, building off of the sort of dynamic avant folk they've been slinging of late, flooding the sepia of Yellow House with a lot more sunshine ... yeah, pretty fucking good. Take it with you:

Very good, but finish that Department of Eagles record already!

For those not aware... Daniel Rossen of Grizzly Bear is one half of the duo that make up Department of Eagles- an INCREDIBLE band that have only one album out.. their second album is nearly complete and is in the same vein of material as this- but possibly-dare I say more upbeat. You can check out a few of their new songs/demos at

i feel like anything dan touches is probably going to be amazing, yes. both grizzly bear and dept of eagles have produced some classic classic songs. however, i seriously believe grizzly has a combination of strengths which to be reckoned with. i cant fucking wait to hear more of the new songs because this one is fucking blowing me away. they're only getting better and better. i cant stop listening to it. the songwriting, the harmonies, the tones. all come from a world i want to live in pretty constantly. i need more right now.

I dunno, I like department of eagles and this song a lot but I agree with Ben, the multiple voices just make it so special. Plus I prefer Ed's voice to dan's although I really like his too.

regardless of voice, stellar new track

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen
