New Iron & Wine Video - "Boy With A Coin"

The excellent outing from Sam Beam this year isn't topping year-end lists lke maybe we thought upon premature pontification (but we haven't seen the Gummys results yet have we, oh suspense), but the LP still stands tall these months later, and "Boy With A Coin"'s "African sounding guitar thing" remains a beautiful, bona fide thorn in SF-J's thesis. The handdrums and handclaps masterclass changes locales and ethnic emphasis in the clip, though, Sam leading a flamenco-esque dance class for a bevy of black-clad beauties.

Not sure who's the luckier one: Beam or the womenz. You know the lady with the grey armpiece is the teacher because she has a magic skirt. (We'll swap for YouTube ASAP, non-Statesiders)

Dammit... that song gives me chills EVERY TIME. Count me among the surprised that the album hasn't ranked higher on year-end charts (maybe not top 10, but damn good).

Surprisingly great video. I do however enjoy this song so much more live.

The percussive hand claps in that song almost kept me awake. Almost.

That clip works well as a visual representation of tedium. It really captures the essence of Sam Beam's music.

He's on my year-end chart! (Though I'm actually waiting towards the end of the year to put it up)

It seems kind of weird to me that he waited about 6 months after the single was released to create a video .. wth?

I really think Sam Beam works magic with his music. Not quite sure I liked the video (I much prefer the Sam-directed vids of the past), but I am happy to see that they at least made a video.

I love the direction that his music moved in. I didn't like it on the first couple of listens, instead wishing for the return of Our Endless Numbered Days, but it grew on me. Now I love it.

The video gives me chills! It is stellar and the special effects are just right. I suppose you would have to understand both sides, the music and the dance to get the full affect. Lesser educated people may see this video as boring but the smarter crowd (which most Iron and Wine fans are) will understand that it is brilliant and spectacular!
