New Jack White & Alicia Keys Video - "Another Way To Die"

thumbnail icon: New Jack White & Alicia Keys Video - "Another Way To Die"

The Bond between Jack and Alicia is strong. And by that I mean it has massive pecs and its name is Daniel Craig, because if we are talking musical bonds then no it is not strong. The musical bond sounds about as strong as White giving Alicia the keys to his 007 studio an hour after leaving and saying "Alicia please go in and sing the words and notes that I have sung and we will be a HIT BOND THEME COLLABORATION." But the official hit Bond theme collaboration video does go a long way to establishing the pair have occupied the same space at some time, because despite the posing and instrument playing on green-screen sets hosting images of 007 opening-strut sequences and espionage-y deserts, there is a moment where the pair are leaning back to back while seated at Alicia's keys. PROOF. Even so, I defy you to find a shadow in this video that isn't created digitally. For added authenticity, of course:

They are so real. Better pairing: the White Keys or Meg LaMontagne?

this is still pretty ok. it would've stood up as a white stripes song - as it probably was going to be until jack blew the dust off it.

i think the track is great. the more you listen, the more it sticks with you. it is memorable, which is more than i can say about prior Bond songs.

would like to see the stereogum journalist write a song. not sure why stereogum have been so out to attack this pairing.

I don't like it. The lack of feeling between the two comes out in the song which is without grip. Chris Cornell song was better

wow why the hatred, just cause these two are too famous? it doesnt make sense at first but there is no denying this song is good. it sounds like a bond song and it could stand on its own too...jack white can do no wrong lately, this is coming from a wimpy hipster, this song is bad ass

Haven't got to listen to the song yet, so no comment on it. But I wanted to ask: Is it just me, or does Jack look a bit like Michael Jackson in that picture above? I thought that's who it was a first.

I think it would have been better had it just been Jack. Or the White Stripes/Raconteurs. Alicia just.... well, I'll be honest - she ruins an otherwise kick-ass song. Her harmonies don't quite fit and at the end... I shiver in protest.

I like the song, pretty well. I agree it would have been just as good or better sans Alicia Keys. That feeling is exacerbated by this video, which has all the chemistry of a sham marriage.

Not a bad song but still middle of the road. Face it: The last Bond song you could hum two minutes after hearing it was "A View to a Kill."

I thought the exact same thing. Would have been way cooler if they had made it longer and with Robert Plant instead of Alicia Keys. Also, whoever it was in the studio who let Keys sing "bang bang bang" at the end should be fired immediately. Weak sauce!

i like how it well combines 2 genres. maybe it's a way to appeal to 2 audiences at once, create more exposure for each field. i think that's what a theme song should partly do, appeal to a broader crowd.

those drums sound AWESOME, though the rest of the levels are kinda weird. this song's pretty good though. JW + AK sound good together, but keys's voice seems a little lacking sandwiched between white's.

the Amy Winehouse one could have been really something now that I have heard this song. I think that a solid James Bond song should be more sophisticated, more sultry, and less "slapped together".
Too bad that Ms. Winehouse couldn't have contributed something. I expected more from White-Keys. wahhhhh!!!! I will still see the movie tho

It's strange but I like exactly this microtone friction between their voices. And Alicia has to cope with the problem of playing riff rock on a piano (tendency of the whole song; happens to happen when you reduce Bond theme violins into a ra-ta-ta-tat) therefore in benefit of the doubt and I like it at least partially because of Ms Keys.
Only the video is so terribly cheesy that it hurts and this call and response style solo towards the outro... let's just say: they shouldn't have gone there

I totally disagree that they shouldn't be together. I hadn't heard of Jack White-not my genre of music-but I was impressed by his vocals. I already like Alicia and thought they were great together. I thought it was interesting to put them together and thought both voices together were impressive and excellent. I think too many are swayed by either the genre they like or the original review. I think the song is good, but their voices are great!

To Will Darter: Anyone can play the drums better than Meg White because conceptually she's a primitive drummer. Meg White could play the drums better than Meg White. It's not like she can't practice.

And it's funny that the only people who like the song are people who like Jack White.
God this song sucks. And I hated the Chris Cornell one as well.

Stop giving the Bond song to any random rock star who wants to do one, and give it to someone who can actually write one.

Absolutely love the song. It's so brash and aggressive, tailor made for the new Mr Bond. Well done Jack. As a pairing J & A have just the right amount of edge. The video is simple to be sure, could've just watched Jack play drums throughout to be honest. Not a bad clip though, can't wait to see the tune played out the big screen! I love all the emotions this song has stirred, some mehs but mostly passionate yays or nays. Excitement.

Wow, this goes to show how there are no definitives. For everyone that loves it another hates it or these two artists being paired together. While I am pro odd pairings like these (especially across genres), I am frankly not crazy about the song itself (although I was really impressed by Jack's drum chops - at least it appears like he actually played the part based on his gestures at the drum set).

I think the song is kind of cool, especially the breakdown, but what's up with the vocal effects? The fact that the audio seemingly drops out from time to time, and that their voices mix together when they switch leads makes me think that Jack should have bit the bullet and let someone else produce this track. This minimalist version of maximalism sounds like fail to me.

alot of views here.....

i think this song goes a long way and is probably alot deeper than alot of us thnk! Quite much has been said about the pairing of these 2 artists....

the song is fantastic as any one knowing these 2 artists would know that this song would have been impossible without them 2 together. The break drums, guitars mixed with alicia's intuitive-creative sing as she goes improvisations clearly shows in the song - but by each bringing their own styles together - the violins orchestra and trumpet/sax harmony rush in every so often to remind us this is 007.

Its not enough and it is also too much - immaculately put together.

all i can say is that i cant stop listening to this song. i love it.

I'm as big a Jack White fan as there is. I don't think the song is that great. I certainly don't think it's that bad either. Problem is it's 2 huge names so instantly everyone's expectations are thru the roof & that's hard to live up to. Not to mention the fact that Jack & Alicia are pretty different stylistically so it's hard to please the Fan base of both. Then it's a soundtrack song & ontop of that a soundtrack for a huge franchise w/ a long history, So you're pretty boxed in from the start with what you can do, it's gotta fit the movie & it has to "sound bond". I think it's pretty good considering all that. But not really all that memorable. But why should it be?
