New Jeff Tweedy Video - "The Thanks I Get"

We're loving the country-blues of this unreleased Tweedy tune -- but, it's tough not to love all things Jeff. The clip was recorded in Portland's Crystal Ballroom and comes from Tweedy's upcoming live DVD, which sees him working through Wilco, Uncle Tupelo and Loose Fur songs (with a little help from Glenn Kotche and Nels Cline). Dig that warm, living-room lighting.

Wilco has a new record out this spring, but Tweedy's Sunken Treasure: Live from the Pacific Northwest is out 10/24; since that's first in time, we suggest you start there.

Everything that man touches turns to songwriting gold. I'm super excited for the dvd.

Christ I hope the DVD comes with a Wilco retrospective book, and an accompanying DVD about that book. There really isn't enough that can be said about Jeff Tweedy and Wilco. When does the Jeff Tweedy video game come out?

I expect more from a live concert video. Tweedy sounds great though.

Start with the I Am Trying To Break Your Heart documentary. After seeing the picture in the theater, I went to the record store across the street and picked up Yankee Hotel Foxtrot and worked my way back. Jeff's a brilliant songwriter and I can't say it enough.

Where's Portaland? There aren't that many port-o-potties around town.

I saw Wilco last Wednesday at Purdue, the first stop on their new tour. Jeff's mother had passed away the Saturday before, and it was an incredibly emotional performance. He's amazing.

Yeah... I was wondering about the Port-o-Potties too. They'd be very useful to have around. Unfortunately I see none when I walk around town. Boo.

Tweedy is a serious bad ass. At the Ryman earlier this year after Wilco was finished, he stepped in front of the speakers with no microphone and asked the crowd to be silent. He played Acuff Rose (like he loves to finish a concert with). I think even if I saw it 100 times, it would seem like the first time.

shameless self-promo: i took a pretty good video of Jeff at his show in Tribeca. I actually think it came out better than the one above. The song is "Sugar Baby," enjoy.

I'm a little disappointed that the vancouver show around the same time wasn't filmed for this, but that being said, i can't wait to see the dvd.

Jeff Tweedy is a songwriting god. I know most probably know about this site, but lots of torrents for great shows, old and new: http://bt.viachicago.org/

Isn't this the song that the full band did on Conan a couple of months back? I hope it's on the record that comes out in the Spring.

If you've never heard the guy, try some of those tracks. They're coming down tomorrow afternoon, when I put up the next post in the series.

I, too, was looking for the song "Thanks I Get" - I went online googling for Johnny Lang....and it's someone I've never even heard of. It's an awesome song.
