New Johnathan Rice Video - "We're All Stuck Out In The Desert" (Plus A Cameo-Filled Press Conference)

He's just barely turned 24, but Johnathan Rice seems to have some stuff figured out for himself: major label deal, fancy friends, lauds from R.E.M., an IMDB page, a tour with Gibbard and Bazan, and a relationship with Jenny Lewis (by comparison, think we had just about figured out how to log on to Movable Type by that age). And it's a mix-and-match of all of the above for the video of Johnathan's roots-pop single "We're All Stuck In The Desert"; got your major label budget, ample use of acting chops, Rilo Kileyers Blake Sennett and of course Jenny Lewis (in the backing band, driving the runaway car) Faye Runaway (one of the "Moneymaker" porn stars), and Winona Ryder (as a skinny reporter). The Blake and Winona bits are pulled from a faux press conference which features most of the aforementioned folks, and some others we couldn't put names to (that's where you guys come in -- we're just good for ID'ing rock stars, porn stars, and Winona Ryders). The conference has Johnathan answering questions regarding the video (which itself uses clips from the conference -- the time line's a bit Pulp Fiction), so for the sake of the narrative find the vid first, press clip next -- both after the jump.

Jonathan Rice is (unintentionally?) hilarious and super talented. He makes music fun.

Daniel Baldwin as the investment banker, but that one is easy, no?

The backing band in the music video is Jenny Lewis's backing band from her solo tour -- Michael Runion on bass, Jason Boesel (from Rilo Kiley) on drums, Farmer Dave on lap steel, and then of course Jenny herself on guitar/keys.

In the "press conference," the girl with the short dark hair who asks about cooking seafood is Morgan Nagler from Whispertown2000.

that's not farmer dave that's jonathan wilson. farmer dave is in interpol now. on jrice's myspace it says farmer dave produced his new record.....
but, i think it's farmer dave on the actual recording
beachwood sparks are the shit.

this kid is definitely bringing down his douche factor dramatically. however, threat levels remain high until i hear the record.

I think that the "Free Market System"/"What is yr point?!" guy is maybe Rob Zabrecky from Possum Dixon? Weird, I loved that band...it's been a while.

Note: I am almost always wrong at Name That Person. Always. Almost.

i just want to say that i don't work for the wall street journal or anything, but i think kanye is gonna wax fifty come 9/11. i think 50's ok and all that, and i really like the i get money single....but i put that more on flex's track than fifty himself. you get what you pay for, these days, and that sounds like it cost a few nasdaq sweatrags. i don't ever really find myself thinkin bout fifty's lyrics, but i think about kanye's words sometimes in my car. and kanye's gonna have weezy on his new record, which is worth my weekly allowance any week. dedication 2 has been in heavy rotation since like 2006! weezy is just on that zeitgeist, and you can't really ignore it. i want to see him break his own records, and, i want to do a remix with him and see if we can maybe do it with mannie fresh. i can't promise big sales....but i'm so dedicated right now.
thanks for peepin this video
