New Kanye West Video - "Can't Tell Me Nothing"

Kanye 3.0 may be older and wiser, but Mr. West still rocks that mankerchief like nobody's business. This tune's built on "I Got Money" samples, which is all well and Jeezy, but we're still hungry for video #2, the one for the track that samples Daft Punk's "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger." Factor in the album's Chris Martin cameo ("Homecoming") and Jon Brion production, and, well, you can see why Stereogum's psyched for Graduation day.

Hype Williams directed, and while we're digging the stuttering camera work (sprocket runoff?), his desert vixen's slo-mo, fluttering goth garb just seems so familiar...

Sorry Kanye, I can tell you something--that scarf-like goiter of cloth hanging around your neck is not working. Who does that? Have I missed a serious trend?

I've got hope yet. Kanye has churned out classic alubm after album: he can no wrong at the moment. Sure, the 'NUUUTHINN' is cringe worthy everytime but the track's not bad otherwise.

Its a pretty boring song for a single. He puts his beats aside for his lyrics, which isnt anything to write home about.

Very disappointing from the guy who gave us "Gold Digger" and "Heard Em Say."

For a guy who talks about buying too much Louis V and jewelry, you think he could spend more then five bucks on making a music video.

Cool beat, but his lyrics have gone emo!

...Next team up Kanye and Chris Carrabba.

Hey,
I don't think Jon Brion did much production on it at all.
without sounding all "name droppy" and all, a friend has the uncompleted record and said there is lil or no Jon Brion to be found on record.

I have to commend it! at this time in hip-hop
no one is saying anything as far as lyrics are concerned! So with Kanye ripping this beat with
catcy one liners is greatly appreciated.
The video is simple no strippers shaking their butts no gun talk just hip hop inits purest form.
Sorry guys but if you were looking to see another ignorant black person disrespecting his race..Look again Kanye holds it down for his people!

and this video represents the people right? dumbass. There is nothing Pure about this self conceited video. Just cause he isnt setting the race back as many cooning bastards are doing doesnt make him an MLK. This stuff is dissappointing for a single. It would probably fit better on the album..

The new track is kind of boring, but it at least shows Kanye is better than 50 Cent.
Wait... is that saying much?

Hmmm, where to start?

Overall, I like it. I think Kanye has kind of a habit at this point of rolling out a bit of a weaker song for the first single, and then kicking all of our asses with a real banger for the second or third single ("through the wire" followed by "all falls down" and "jesus walks", "diamonds of sierra leone" followed by "golddigger" and "heard 'em say") This new song is by no means bad, but he can definitely do better (and yeah, the "NUUUUTHIN!"s are pretty embarrassing. Kanye is many things, but a thug is definitely not one of them). I'm going to reserve final judgement for the next few singles. If he can somehow fuck up a collaboration with Daft Punk, then Mr. West clearly has jumped the shark. For right now, however, I'm optimistic.

The new standard for the slo-mo vixen in fluttery grab is the Oracle in "300" -- slower and more fluttery than Hype's. Anyway, I still like Kanye's writing even if he's not exactly rapping; "Life's a bitch/depending how you dress her" was a highlight.
Here's hoping the Daft Punk track has some "Golddigger" or "All Falls Down" Kanye-level production though.

you sure this other track actually samples Daft Punk?
Its more likely it samples Edwin Birdsong "Coca Cola Bottle Baby" which Daft Punk looped for the backing of "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger."

Yeah, it's a Kanye West video directed by Hype Williams, but the collaboration in this instance only seems to emphasize their respective creative slumps. This shit should be better.

Kanye is a satire of himself: he poses as a morally and creatively superior being, comparing himself to Jesus and Muhammad Ali, respectively, and yet his message and rapping skills are a joke. He's just another corporate hack who sells faux rebellion to the masses, while hip hop has been completely co-opted by The Man. When young white males are your base, you're as rebellious as Father Knows Best.

as none of you can seem to remember, "diamonds from sierra leone" was a bomb from late registration as first single, and then "gold digger" came out as second single and was the biggest smash of that year.

Wow most of you people posting stuff like this video sucks or hip hop is dead your complete idiots, i would say no offense but then the sarcasm would be to high for most of you people to understand

Ok first of all to the person who said hip hop is truly dead you probably don't even understand what hip hop is in that fact, the point of the video is so that you concentrate more on the lyrics than the video.I'm truly sorry that this song doesn't have the eye candy you like seeing in other rappers music videos , who have half dressed girls, cars and all that other nonsense. And to those of you who say that the video is boring and or wack, i guess you don't know anything about cinematography, the changing camera levels and shots make the area that Kanye is larger than it truly is, and we also call that orginality for those of you who can't find what your orginal at and copy someone else. It takes people with good understanding to understand something good which most of you people lack honestly. If you hate something please don't post stuff that doesn't help, and the more haters there are the better people will do when they are making music the only reason why most people do what they do is because of you people who post bad stuff.

Yes we all know that Kanye has the ignorance of kid, but he is clearly showing it in this song that he is aware of it and this song has so much sarcasm i hope most of you people see that. But honestly give him the props he deserves, he is truly a good man like all people just had a bad experience.Thank you for seeing my view of this song, and as you can see i am a Kanye fan no matter what.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
i cant take u ignorant people.if u dont like the song or kanye west den say u dont like it.instead of makin stupid ass comments.
also to the people sayin the video sucks maybe you need to take some time out of your miserable lives and listen to the lyrics.oh and dont be sayin dumbass comments about hip hop unless you know wat the hell ur talkin about.the only reason people are mainly dissin the video and sayin its boring because there's not enough black men flashin their damn jewlery and not enough women dancing half naked.you people are absolute fools.
the next time you say hip hop is dead think about who made it this way.it used to be a way to express yourself and have other people aware of wat u r going through now its just a whole bunch of hornie showoffs lookin for more money to flaunt.
and to the people sayin it has to much emo lyrics.this is wat i say, at least emo people can talk about more things den their escalade.

just because the man doesnt have on extreme jewlerry or stand around a hummer or escalade an he actually wear cloths that fit him doesnt mean he cant have an impact on modern hip hop..i feel its about time someone changed it from all this "i got money, a fat crib, a fat whip, an a bitch wit a fat ass" an sed sumthn that mattered..no disrespect to 50, i love his music, but i hope west outsells him and brings somethin to the table hip hop has never seen!!and yet again fuk u haters!

First and for most hip hop may not be showing convincing signs of life but if there is any one who can breath the much needed lifeline back into the seen it has to be kanye. oh dennis yes you have missed a serious trend the neck scarf is cool and simply put your not! if you are to blame anyone thing of the death of hip hop its A) haters like you that are more worried about what the artist is wearing then the music and/or B) the So called dirty south.
