New Kanye West Video - "Flashing Lights" (2nd Version)

thumbnail icon: New Kanye West Video - "Flashing Lights" (2nd Version)

Kanye shot three videos for "Flashing Lights" according to the uploader of this "version you weren't meant to see." (Riiiight.) The last one, directed by Spike Jonze, found Kanye bound, gagged, and beaten with a shovel. This time, Bill Pollock is behind the sexy stop-motion of model Charlotte Carter-Allen, who eats breakfast at 3, smokes cigarettes, and tries on lots of outfits. It's all voyeuristic and fun, then things get violent. All told, you're not gonna see this version on MTV either. Kanye's in it too, in flashbacks or something. Hope take three ties everything together. Or contains a sexy Connect Four tourney.

if anyone says "his ego is too big" or something retarded like that they should just go in a corner and die. the video is ok, the first one was a lot better in my opinion.

This music is boring only for people that don't understand the meaning of it, "T"....
Go back to Soulja Boy.

If the lyrics are meaningful, Kanye should have put them to better music, "Ellipses."

All I can think of when I hear this song now is GTA4. That's a good thing, I guess?

I really didn't like the first video. This video makes little to no sense as well but it has the most beautiful girl I have seen in a long time. I would do horrible unforgivable things to get with her

I really enjoyed this one. the first version; not so much. Being the filmmaker that I am, I think that using stop motion is a really creative way to hide the story(if you havent noticed already).

i like the approach to sex sells. It's more arty than the most hip hip videos.

Classic misogyny. I mean, it's a really good video, but still - classic misogyny.

This might actually be a version "we weren't meant to see" - it's obviously a rough cut, with the way it drags on and the clunky story narrative. It's cool looking but doesn't feel like a finished product. I'm sure they wanted the public to see it eventually, but probably after more editing.

'Hope take three ties it all together'

who is doing the hoping? the writer of this article? the entire stereogum staff? stereogum's omnipresent corporate owners? it's so incredibly passive that it's almost like it's not hoping at all, it's almost as if there is someone named Hope Take Three who ties it all together.

Isn't rap completely burned out? My god, how boring. I've got an idea, rappers - sing! Sing a song, sing out loud, sing out strong! Sing of good things, not bad, sing of happy, not sad! I'd have much more respect for Kanye if he covered "The Pennsylvania Polka" instead of this rehashed top 40 crap.

Whoever wrote this needs to do their homework and not just copy and paste from other outlets. If they had done that, they'd know this was directed by NEON.

You guys at Stereogum do know that Lil Wayne's Carter 3 leaked two days ago right? Let's hope. It's only the biggest album of the year so far..
