New Langhorne Slim Video - "Rebel Side Of Heaven" (Stereogum Premiere)

thumbnail icon: New Langhorne Slim Video - "Rebel Side Of Heaven" (Stereogum Premiere)

The beautifully lit Crackerfarm-directed video for "Rebel Side Of Heaven" takes place at the Box in Manhattan. It looks really good (lots of rich shadows and tones), which makes sense: Crackerfarm, aka the husband/wife team of Mike and Lindsey, are also photographers, who've shot Sonic Youth, the Avett Brothers, Sparklehorse, Regina Spektor, Langhorne himself, etc. (The image to the right's a screengrab from the video, not a promo photo.) Content-wise, it's a simple, raucous performance by PA-born, Brooklyn-based Langhorne Slim and his War Eagles interspersed with spotlit mugging by the band, various bar and bathroom tableau (folks making out, a guy reading the newspaper on the can, a peeping tom, a dude blowing his horn). It's our second video of the day that features a woman wearing a tie. If we have one more, we declare a trend.

"Rebel Side Of Heaven" is the first single from Langhorne's new (out today) self-titled record. We tried making a Slayer joke, but no dice.

Langhorne Slim is out via Kemado.

A friend emailed me today saying he saw him open for Ritter last night and that he was really good. I'd never heard of him until this post. But that's a really quality song. I'll have to check him out when he comes up to boston

I saw Langhorne in Portland with the Two Man Gentlemen Band ( http://seriousbusinessrecords.com/artists/show/5 )and the Sasparilla Jug Band last summer and it was the best show I ever saw. The War Eagles kick ass ...

I caught have his set last night and I definitely enjoyed his show. He wasn't with a full band like in the video, I think it was just him and two other guys. I still enjoyed his set.

Josh Ritter is, as always, an amazing performance. This is like the 20th odd time i have seen him and I am always left amazed. My girlfriend saw him live for the first time and she is not as much of a fan as I am.

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
