New Live Iron & Wine - "Flightless Bird, American Mouth"
One of the most heart (and politically) achey songs on The Shepherd's Dog is closer, "Flightless Bird, American Mouth": Lost innocence, a fat cat, a grounded eagle. As we mentioned while getting premature on the album, Iron & Wine live can be a sketchy affair if he's backed by that Grateful Dead-style band, so it's nice to see Sam and only Sam on this lovely take on that very lovely closer.
That said, he does seem a tad lonely without his bird-loosing dancers.
The Shepherd's Dog is out on Sub Pop.

It's truely amazing that something so simple could be so wonderful.

I couldn't disagree more about his live band. I caught the Seattle show on the latest tour and it was heart-stopping. The majority of the songs were re-worked in some incredibly impressive way, while keeping the integrity of the lyrics and melodies. As my wife pointed out, it's like his songs are standards...no matter how you shake it, they hold up. The band that he's gotten together is phenomenal. Each musician held their own impeccably. Plus I love seeing Leroy Bach somewhere other than my "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart" DVD.
