New LK Video - "Stop Being Perfect"

We've seen magic walls in videos before -- courtesy of Brooklyn's Parts & Labor -- however the self-animating stop-motioned magic of this white room comes via Swedish indie pop duo the LK. "Stop Being Perfect" pits the pair in a blank space and captures them on film that flips to negative, while patterns and pictures project themselves in tidy quadrants. It's a very smoothed and melodic tune, sort of reminds us of Erlend Øye's Whitest Boy Alive project, just more buoyant, with more forward momentum. The electronic accents, the background whirls and whirrrs, and the shuffling, brushed drums set a sweet scene for the lyrics of "frozen cloud"s and "sticky black tongues." Nice tune for a wispy wintry night.

Take it with you:

"The LK - Stop Being Perfect" (MP3)

Vs. The Snow -- the LK's first album to be released in the States -- is out now via The Kora Records.

This is the type of video that gives low budget a bad name. The animated artwork is boring not to mention atleast 100 years behind the contemporary art world. As for the video world.... all i can say is... "solarize filter whoo hoo!" As for the song (which pretty much stands in the background to the shabby video) it says nothing musically or lyrically and goes nowhere aesthetically or emotionally which maybe makes the video a perfect match for it.

Hey, you should check out Sincere's new single with Avril Lavigne! It's called Never Say. Really cool blend of hip-hop and pop. hip-pop?

Someone needs to close a tag here: ? Also, archangel, you're a dick and I totally disagree with you, but, hey, I'm sure you're right there on the cutting edge of the art world, creating art with proteins or something. Yep. You're a real expert.

I don't think this video gives low budget a bad name. I think the danger here is having a video that looks cool, but leaves the connection between the display and the song's message unclear. When the video switches to the nighttime mode, there should be a reason for that in the song. It doesn't have to be as clear as country song story lines, but even if you are just trying to make an atmosphere, give it some build and meaning. I also think the part where he just hides behind his drum is pretty funny.
