New Low Video - "Breaker"

Watch as Alan Sparhawk inhales a chocolate cake! We'd be glad to draw out some tenuous line of connection to the track's existential lyrics, but we've got nothing. Instead, we'll take the clip's moral at face value; next time you speed-eat a confection on film, have a spare glass of milk handy. Or, just hire Takeru Kobayashi.

If you missed it:

Beautiful song, not so beautiful (or interesting) video.

@mattshu: beautiful song indeed, but I'm surprised you don't find the video interesting. The whole album seems to be a lament about our messed up day and age and here we find a pretty strong statement about how despite all the problems and sadness, we just keep consuming, consuming, consuming, trying to satiate a hunger that can't be filled...

that's just my $.02. also, I found this recent quote from Sparhawk to be illuminating:

The oblique songs on “Drums and Guns” are just as intense but are aimed more outward — at “war and killing and poverty and the deterioration of the ecosystem and things like that,” Sparhawk said.

jimm gaffigan would have a ball with this video.

two questions:
is that some sort of army jacket he's wearing?
do we think that they handclaps are off intentionally or if thats just a result of youtube?

My first reaction to the video, is that he's wearing an army uniform. He's American Military policy, eating, eating, and eating cake, to the "applause" of the two behind him, or America. Check the lyrics.

Syncing is frequently off in YouTube music vids. Wish they'd get that fixed.

Charlie - I think you nailed it. Everyone also seems very zombie-like... as if they are doing what they're doing by rote, without thinking.

There are these people here coming out with great reasons for the video, and all that I thought it was about was Alan wanting there to be an end to the cake he's been forced to eat. Wasn't it in 'Matilda' that the fat kid had to eat a cake infront of people clapping or something?

Anyway, the above reasons for the video are much better than mine.
