New M. Ward Video - "Rave On"

thumbnail icon: New M. Ward Video - "Rave On"

The Zooey fans were probably hoping Matt would follow up "Hold Time"'s video with some sort of visual treatment for "Never Had Nobody Like You," but they have cotton commercials to hold them over. And, yes, Deschanel also shows up on Ward's cover of Buddy Holly's "Rave On," albeit as a more-distant, basically disembodied backup vocalist. Regardless, Mike Please sets the clip in a windy world of strange wooden puppets that doesn't follow any sort of clear associative map, outside of the protagonist's boxier take on Holly's specs.

For your next bike ride into the imaginary:

This is bad. Buddy Holly is cringing from the grave.

The character designs remind me of the collage work of children's illustrator Lane Smith. Cool video.
