New Mandy Moore Video - "Extraordinary"

The PR swirl around Mandy Moore has been aiming to convert thine hipster heart, to capitalize on her Braff days, to separate her from the pop tart pack. And her first clip from Wild Hope proves that the road to heaven is paved with the best of videographic intentions and lots of ascending shots of Mandy Moore being very, very boring. Screw Zach, we had high hopes after Saved and her Joe Jackson cover. Not to mention her work next to Vinnie Chase in Aquaman! But she seems like a nice gal with a healthy body image. Stick to magazine covers?

This almost seems like it was intentionally written to be the theme song for a spinoff to THE HILLS, or something like that.

Videos like this seem to only exist to justify later fan-based "make your own video" contests. It's gotta be clearly bad, but have enough production behind it that it doesn't look as though they intentionally crapped the bed.

On another note... songs like this are really why we need someone to raise the flag of VH1 again. If adult contemporary doesn't have a ghetto, then we ALL have to deal with it.

The video was directed by Ace Norton, and I liked it. Is much better a song and a video like this, then some shit like green day or kelly klarkson.

Maybe if she was unknown, everybody would appreciate it.

flying girls? mandys rising? whaaaa?

the video is a typical interpretation of a typical song, which is: a bunch of mandy's personalities holding each other up with one at the top that is escaping (because now she's ready). it's pretty obvious. i don't care much for mandy (beside the fact that she's hot) but this song at least seems genuine.

Arcade Fire also uses the Rhodes piano and we all know how much the hipsters hate them.

maybe i'm not a hipster (i'm not going to lose any sleep tonight pondering the answer to that question), but i've been searching for a bargain-bin rhodes for about a year now. that song is stale candy, but the rhodes does sound tasty.

Sounds like she's trying to go the Imogen Heap route and hope that it sticks. Terrible video, though. I seriously would love to have a good long talk (and no, that's not a double nintendo for sexxing) with this woman about her musical/lyrical future. I feel like she could really do something with herself and her music, but she's being advised and produced by out-of-touch idiots.

Hey, Mandy, if you're listening, email me. K? K. I work cheap.

I saw Mandy perform most of the songs from her new album at a show a few months ago and I have to say, I was kind of impressed. Of course, I loved her personality and overall vibe going in so I might be biased, but the music mostly held up and she's a stronger singer than I realized.

That being said, this is one of the less interesting songs on the album and this video blows chunks. Whoever at The Firm advised her to release this one as the first single is smoking some crack.

video is bad. song is not impressive tho, so whatevs.

'saved' is a great movie, but nothing beats the time i saw 'walk to remember' in a college movie theater full of drunk kids throwing things and laughing at "inappropriate" times. it was awesome.

wow. its not that bad.

its not that GOOD, but its not THAT bad either. its just kind of "there"....

is she wasn't "mandy moore" you guys wouldn't be jumping on the bashing-bandwagon as quickly.

twinnstar: i agree. it's not astoundingly bad, i think it's because it's mandy moore so you gotta be like, 'this blows!' to be cool. it's just not mind-blowing in either direction i guess. which is pretty much the essence of mandy moore.

also Matthew: double nintendo- i am totally going to steal that from you, if you don't mind.

song: whatever
video concept/execution: feh

but....... i wonder how she and her people approved a video in which she is portrayed so unflatteringly, dowdy and... wide-hipped?
even if she's attempting to be a more mature artist, a little sex appeal goes a long way.

it's not great, but it didn't give me a migraine like the majority of the pop-starlets do, so i'm impressed!

Supposedly she's been working with Rachael Yamagata on this album, who has been working with Mike Mogis (i think that's his name) from Saddle Creek. So she's, like, two degrees from Conor Oberst. Weird.
