New Maxïmo Park Video - "Our Velocity"

It's five times the '80s fun on this clip for the first single from Maxïmo Park's forthcoming record Our Earthly Pleasures. Think "slick Devo" in a hall of mirrors.

Our Earthly Pleasures is out 4/2 on Warp.

why are people still listening to/making music like this?

It's decent enough mate...not everything you listen to needs to have the hyperliterate, deep thoughts with jack handy vibe that you're perhaps seeking out in serious, avant-garde music...just maybe this is the kind of tune that's nice to hear out a decent club on the weekend...but maybe that's not your scene, letting loose sometimes, maybe it's more about staying up to 3AM downloading the next great godspeed you black emperor soundalikes? All the same, no need to knock a decent band/tune

Thanks -- I'm digging that a LOT. Now I'm even-more-anxiously awaiting the follow up to what I think was, front-to-back, the second-best record of 2005 (next to Art Brut's).

I've got the MP3 over my way. This tune has really grown on me, though I'm saddened to see the keyboardist still doing those silly karate-chop moves. Somebody stop him!

Hmm. Slick Devo is a perfect description. Mediocre. Actually, there's something really irritating about them.

What is it with this blog, it seems like no song is ever good enough. Still it's not as bad as pitchfork... Personally, I think 'A Certain Trigger' was an essential album for anyone and this new single is great expectation of what's to come.

'Trigger' was a good album, but this song bored me. Not trying to be critical here, but there's better stuff out there and I know you know it too.

What? NOTHING IS EVER GOOD ENOUGH? We're just supposed to accept and even like things that are mediocre, just because they're NEW? Sorry, but that's a pretty strange conceit to me.
