New Menomena Video - "Evil Bee"

It's never been a better time to be a fan of footwear and indie rock. Rockers are constantly announcing their own lines of shoes, Adidas is curating comps of free and original futbol jamz, etc. The PF Flyers line in particular gets a resounding two toes up from us here, though, first for helping the well heeled Johnny Marr put out his signature brand of kicks, and now for underwriting a crazy cool Menomena vid for "Evil Bee." It's a collaboration in spirit (they "share [PF's] passion for detail and design") more than anything -- i.e. there's no bees rocking sneaks in the clip. But there are bees after all: of the animated variety, working with liquid extracts on assembly lines, being transformed into evil winged insects by the nefarious militaristic pigeons, fueling their diabolical avian overlords. Part National Geographic 'circle of life' style documentary, part IMAX flight of fancy, all awesome. This is how honey is made.

Friend And Foe is out on Barsuk. "Evil Bee" is directed by Stefan Nadelman.

Cool video. Distracted me from the music almost completely, which was nice.

stereogum: thanks for creative synopsis. one correction however, no CGI used in the making...all done in after effects. a minor detail relevant to all those animators out there.

off topic, but unsure about where to post
(I endorse any incidental Menomena exposure, though!):

why the 3-day lapse? you expect us to believe that the ten 09/04 posts were all written today? (I'd cite evidence otherwise, but I just found the first post of the day...)

S'gum = P'fork now ؟

the day S'gum has "jumped the shark" ‽
(still trying to make sense of that, re: Feist/ensemble on Letterman, and perhaps directed at New Porns?)

Nice work - this is by far my favorite song on the album. Now if only they'd release "Air Aid" as the last video...

Hate to be picky, but you guys at PF didn't put it on the site the announced date (sept. 1).... I watched it like the 4th... my oh my... just teasing (:

Anyways GREAT work, worth the wait, the minute I saw the small preview "Who could love an evil, drinking, smoking bee?" I was amazed.

Love the song, so much richness in the music... just your "average" Menomenah! song. One of my favorites in the album, when that sax kicks in, then the drums, piano and it all comes together marvelously... sweet goodness!!!!

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt
