New Metallica Video - "The Day That Never Comes"

thumbnail icon: New Metallica Video - "The Day That Never Comes"

We've already lived through "The Day That Never Comes" -- in the studio and live. So this is the third time it has never come. Something like that. The stitched together, eight-and-a-half-minute, Metallica-sampling Metallica epic gets a high budget, short-film style video today, set in a region of California made up like an American-occupied Islamic state, with soldiers very freaked out by a woman in a burka. Lars writes:

We were honored to work with acclaimed film director and fellow Dane Thomas Vinterberg, as our goal with this song was to step outside of the usual every day music video box and into to the world of film. As you may have see here earlier, we shot it outside of Los Angeles a month ago and we hope that you are as blown away by Thomas' vision as we are.

That comes from metallica.com. Truth be told it is totally gripping, but mostly because I sat with clenched jaw hoping Metallica didn't set back Arab-American relations and burka-appreciation 20 years with the finale. See for yourself.

More Metallica web-friendliness: You can hear the full studio clip of "Cyanide" (which we first heard live) at metallica.com. If you like it, you'll be able to buy it later today at iTunes.

Death Magnetic is out 9/12.

Anti-anti-anti-aunty-Americanism. Cool I guess, except that there weren't any explosions in the end. I'm pissed.

This is not a recruitment video!!! This is about pain, loss, anger, resentment and how one deals with those very difficult and ponderous issues.

" This is about pain, loss, anger, resentment and how one deals with those very difficult and ponderous issues."

...which you can deal with by joining the military and blowing shit up.

So the moral of the story is that Arabs are just looking for a free jump-start? Sounds like Neocon bullshit to me.

whoa. c'mon boys. Lay off on the autotune. James' years of vocal abuse must have caught up with him, he's got a bad case of the R&B-cher effect warble on the chorus.

Get off Metallica's backs u haters. (Bet all u love these shitty metal bands who just scream random shit n r straight edge. They all wud all sell out them selfs but no 1 in the nmainstream r intrested, so they will always be destined 2 be earing $50 a nite rather than$50,000) true they av been shit since 91 but the stuff of Death magnetic is the best ive heard since then and the first 3 maybe 4 albums r MASTER pieces!!!
