New M.I.A. (Clothing Advertisement Dressed As A) Video - "Shells"

thumbnail icon: New M.I.A. (Clothing Advertisement Dressed As A) Video - "Shells"

Continuing being totally retired, Maya's got a new video today. The first title card to splash across the screen credits "Film & Clothes" to M.I.A. -- which means it's essentially a spot for her seizure-baiting fashion line. But she remains of full belly, which means you won't see her wearing any of it. In fact you won't see her at all (she's retired, remember). Instead the vid incorporates the stills and models you'll recognize from that time you were shopping for $75 tees, set to the sped up version of "Shells," a track that first appeared on her October-released EP How Many Votes Fix Mix, later bundled into the Kala deluxe edition. Imagine what it would be like if she was actually working these days.

Say whatever you want about the prices on those clothes, but Maya knows her cheese so she's alright with me. Also don't forget to check out "O Saya," which comes from the Gummy-worthy film Slumdog Millionaire.

"Shells" is available on Maya's How Many Votes Fix Mix EP (avail on iTunes), or as a bonus track to the deluxe Kala edition, both via XL/Interscope.

Surely if knowing yr cheese makes you alright, that makes Alex James alright.

... Alex James is, obviously, not alright.

Wow. So when is the MIA limited-edition blood-diamond-encrusted IPOD carrying case coming out? You know, someone once told me that for one of those T-shirts I could buy three AK-47s.

Honestly, when it comes to limited-edition clothes, they tend to run pretty high. Not saying its right but, she isn't the first to charge seventy five dollars for a t-shirt.

No. Pretty much every band on the planet prints "limited edition" T-shirts. The vast majority run from $12 to $20.

We know that the clothes are expensive, but an additional irony is that the combined retail value for the clothing in this commercial could account for several months' pay for many families on the Caribbean islands. And this little filmy is called the REAL pirates of the Caribbean...

What a hideously boring video. How can there be a special thanks to pole dancers when there weren't any pole dancers? Nice touch with the humping dog too.

I love it when little rich girls sing about how bad it is for poor people, just so they can sell shitty (and I mean SHITTY) designer clothes!! Selling out in a grandiose way like this, making all their music and statements 100% bullshit- that's so great.

Those $75 t-shirts and lame commercial disguised as video are offensive.

fuck this, and her rotten corporate womb.

I guess the real question here is, when are people going to wake up and pay attention to real political music, instead of getting fooled by fake ass MTV Europe sluts?
