New Midlake Video - "Roscoe"
What do you think of when you hear Midlake's instant classic, "Roscoe"? Is it horses and wheat fields and log cabins? We think of M*A*S*H and Fleetwood Mac, but director Dan Fernbach obviously has better instincs than do we. Check the premiere of the clip for the tune that got things moving faster than ever before for the Texan band. It's true to the tune's "houses of cedar" in "1891," and was shot in Oxfordshire, England -- 'cause Denton just wouldn't do.

i don't really like midlake. at all, really. but i'll always remember this roscoe song -- it's much better than the band will ever be. it's pretty fucking good.

Yeah, it's a great song. One of the best of the year. Get over the similarity to Suicide is Painless--it's a pretty standard progression. The video is barely decent. It's fittingly pastoral at best; completely uninteresting is a more appropriate assessment.

I thought the video was drab. After the first few leaks I was ready for Van Occupanther to be one of my year end best ofs, but the rest of the album fell short. Personally, my fav was the storyboard version of the video for "Young Bride".

Great song, the rest of the album is painfully boring, and this video is even MORE boring and really does nothing. It's a gigantic disservice to the song. I hope that this video is nobody's first exposure to the song, because they'd never make it through...and that'd be a shame.

everything was influenced by what came before it, and after so many years of rock-n-roll creation and consumption, it's not impossible to duplicate a progression by accident. it's similar to M*A*S*H, but not exactly the same thing.
besides, I like the song b/c the harmonies are sad and beautiful and it gets stuck in your head. these guys remind me more of the asthetic of "The Band" than "Fleetwood Mac", at least lyrically. dig it.
