New Mobius Band Video - "Friends Like These" (Stereogum Premiere)
A few weeks ago Brooklyn-based OKX-grads Mobius Band wooed us with "Friends Like These," a catchy Peter Sax-sung tune (ah, that disco flourish) about a real-life friend stealing bandmate Ben Sterling's gal. Well, the trio are back with a Wyeth Hansen and Ryan Dunn-directed video for the excellent first single from their sophomore full-length Heaven. Dig the black and white balloons and "to do" list including "reserve chandelier" and "send muffin basket." What's that? Seems like it's the kind of party that all the vacuuming, sweeping, and window watching won't prepare you for. In fact, they keep the drums under wraps just until it's time to rock (i.e. about when the cute girls shows up). Party tip: Never whip out your acoustic guitar, no matter how drunk you get.
Nice, symbolically weighty dog-shaped cake on that table! Who knows if it's true, but we were told that the video was filmed (and the band quickly had a real party) at the apartment of the song's girlfriend-stealer, and supposedly dude doesn't know.
