New Morrissey Video - "All You Need Is Me" (And New Album Title)

thumbnail icon: New Morrissey Video - "All You Need Is Me" (And New Album Title)

He's been implying as much for a really long time, so this song has been a career in the making. "All You Need Is Me," which we first heard via Craig Ferguson, gets a video pitting Moz in a tropical clime with a tambourine, a sunny disposition, and a band full of boys in tight tees. It comes from the Greatest Hits album, one of two new tracks along with "That's How People Grow Up." You're gonna miss him when he's gone.

Greatest Hits is out via Polydor/Decca. Also in Moz news, the next album of original studio material is due in September in the UK via Polydor (which US Universal label will carry it is TBD) and will be called Years Of Refusal.

'You're gonna miss him when he's gone'.....
Amen, brother. I don't see too many other people like Morrissey coming around again anytime soon. Even when he's off his game, which has happened more than occasionally during his solo career, he's infinitely more interesting than just about anybody going today. Which is unfortunate, because people like Moz should be an inspiration to people, not just someone who is poorly imitated or used as a reference point in, usually wildly inaccurate, record reviews. I always read how some mopey song is 'Smiths-like', which completely misses the wit and self-deprecation that he's incorporated in his writing for, man, 25 years. So many musicians today seem to take themselves so damned seriously, it's utterly joyless. I'm not wishing for 100 new versions of Wesley Willis, god forbid, but somebody who would look beyond the ridiculous navel gazing so prevalent in 'indie rock'. I don't mean Craig Finn's tedious Springsteen recitations, either. Something a bit less meat & potatoes, please.

Does Johnny Marr get on his knees every night and thank God his days behind this pompous, self-important ass are through?

How can anyone not find this funny? Consistently making the funniest music. Take note Jack Black.

No, Dw. D. Johnny looks at his varied and unfulfilling discography since abandoning the Smiths and the fans shrugged at his various attempts to find another muse.

Video is bizarre but I like this song better than anything off of "Ringleader ..."

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...
