New MURS Video - "Yesterday & Today"

MURS hitches a ride on a bike headlong into a truly crappy labor days experience in the video for "Yesterday & Today." Bad day at the office: The dude piloting the two-wheeler steals his lunch, the papers pile up and fall, he gets dumped via a letter signed "a bitch" ("you could call it puppy love because i got dogged out"), and some guy checks out his junk in the bathroom (what?). Dude's pain makes for a fun video, complete with an El-P cameo (nice '89 hat and pants), topical pop culture references (Say Anything, etc.) and ultimately, an empowering message on how to change your station in life: "Set a couple goals, follow through with your plan." It also helps if you go Falling Down and hogtie the boss before hijacking his office.

We realize there are a million and one songs about work sucking, but the framing of this pup's reminiscent of MURS's old Definitive Jux pal Aesop Rock's classic "9-5ers Anthem" ... with less complexly intense metaphor and a totally different flow and ... okay, maybe it's just because El-P's in there and we have Def Jux on the brain.

Murray's Revenge is out now on Record Collection/Warner Bros. It's been out a long while. If you want to update your files, you can hear "Better Than The Best," the single from MURS For President, out March '08, over at the man's site.
