New My Chemical Romance Video - "I Don't Love You"

Belleville's biggest Queen fans take a break from Samuel Bayer and put their power ballad "I Don't Love You" in the hands of director Marc Webb. His slick clip's got falling leaves, exploding guitars, and a freaky, bug-eyed android lady. Not bad. But, Gerard, would it kill you to show some emotion?

I mean seriously. This video is beautiful, is it not?

The guitars exploding at the end are the worst part. Its a clear rip of that one Fatboy Slim video. You know, that one.

This is the first My Chemical Romance song I've ever listened to. How long was it -- a little over four minutes?

I just need to know because I'm going to hold down the girl who told me to try MCR and piss in her ear, and I need to make sure that I do it for an equal amount of time.

One good R. Kellying deserves another, after all.

I think Gerard just shows emotion differently than anyone else, and I for one adore that.

The faces he makes in this video and in "Famous Last Words" are priceless. His expressions show more than anything else.

Dead! and the Sharpest Lives should have been the two follow-up singles.

No idea why they released this.

If he did more than frown and look like he's going to cry, his fans would disown him.

Maybe if he did smile, some of those kids would smile. Then there would be less whiny 13 year olds because they would be smiling and happy because that guy from that band did it.

Not that Stereogum has every been the authority on good music but... really guys? You approve of this? Have you decided your demographic is now 12-year-olds? Odd.

And yeah, I was getting a weird Billy Corgan vibe, too.

Anyway, I fucking LOVE this song. The elder Way is looking oddly hot in the video.

Man, give them a fucking break. So they like Queen. Or they sound like Muse. Or, wait, it's Billy Corgan. No, actually, they sound like a band that grew up liking those bands and this is what they want to sound like. Of COURSE this is the follow up single, the label needs to make sure that 14 year old girls buy the damned thing.
Dead is an infinitely better song and will kick ass when it is featured on the XBOX release of Guitar Hero.

The Black Parade was one of the finely produced POP albums put out in '06 unquestionably -- all thanks to the genius of Rob Cavallo.

Mr. Director Marc Webb, like the group itself, showed signs of promise with the "I'm Not Okay" clip in 2004 but now they're both ordinary and unoriginal. Even pretentious.

I saw MCR live recently and it's just laughable. It's obvious that Gerard Way is not a musician by any stretch. He seems to like theatre.

Speaking of the devil.

What's this 30-year-old kid have to whine, bitch and complain about?

You're a white dude from the suburbs of NYC, grew up in a normal middle class household, and your parents sent you/allowed you to attend the School of Visual Arts where you receive a Bachelors degree and now you're traveling around the world singing songs...?

Yeah, get the suicide hotline on the phone quick.

Ouch to the poster above. I'll refrain from commenting on the band's personal lives and restrict my critique to the video.

The song is definitely uncharacteristic of the rest of the band's sound and admittedly not the most original (intro sounds not only like "Yellow" but like Collective Soul's "Run" as well), but I think the video enhances the song by giving it a specific aesthetic, and a fairly beautiful one at that. Sure, I don't get the concept, and what falling band members and exploding gear have to do with it all, but it's well-lit and well-shot and the overall feel fits the song.

it cracks me up how emotional people get about this band. really really love or absolutely loathe. And they're one of those bands that I feel bad for liking, just cos their demographic are teeny-boppers. (The other band is Coheed and Cambria, but they seem cutting-edge compared to My Chemical Romance). But putting aside their reputation, they're actually really good musicians, original and fun. What other popular mainstream bands are this awesome and interesting? And I don't agree they're depressing and emo: they seem light and fluffy to me. To all the haters: Listen to their song "Mama" and then write back. Kurt Weill, Pink Floyd, circus music and heavier rock influences, all in one. They've definitely got something.

Crap, it's pretty shocking that so many people can hate a certain band just because of the way they dress and their "main fanbase".

And why must every song be about that person is exactly feeling when he write's it? (This is directed to the guy who asked what does a 30 year-old have to whine about when he's touring around the world). Using his IMAGINATION and therefore CREATIVITY he made a story of the ending of a brutal relationship. So, by your logic, the lead singer must be trying to tell the world how he got the crap beaten out of him by his ex.

And that's a load of bull. If it were true, pretty much every death metal musician would either be dead or in jail.

Yes, this song is alot like Yellow, and the exploding guitars & amp we're a little over the top, but that's what MCR is these days, over the top and using their creativity to create something new.

(btw - the actual video was pretty good, not as good as The Ghost Of You but it's still up there)

How can you be bothered to make comments when you obviously don't like anything about the band. Why do you all have the need to hammer them with negative comments. If you don't like them, then don't listen or look. I'm old enough to be their Mum and remember all the bands that influenced them. I think they are one of the most sincere and passionate bands out there. I have met them, and felt they were young men who were passionate about their work. Long live MCR. I love your work!!

I'm surprised however that this video is marketed in the UK and not in the US. The imaged portrayed in the American Famous Last Words and the UK single I don't love you, seem to be night and day. Maybe they are marketing to different cultures, which is cool with me! The video isn't on mychemicalromance.com but my concerns are from love of their music so as long as they can still rock who cares about the ninny business. MCR has metamorphized from an obscure little garage type band into a really top notch group of performers. However, people don't seem to get the idea that they don't deal in absolutes. The girl in the video is neither white nor black she is not real. The guy is supposed to respresent something else not a blackman or whiteman. I think Gerard's emotions are evident in all his video's. He is a soul searching for something we cannot understand.

OK here is why they made the song:the whole theme of the black parade is some dude dying and going through all his emotions of his death and the present. He's upset because the girl he loves is gonna get over him after he dies but he doesnt want her to (hense would you have the guts to say i dont love you like i did yesterday). Listen 2 cancer (#8 on the record and it'll make more sense). And for all u ppl who r bashing on mcr:get over urselves!! Gerard Way show's raw emotion in his music and especially this song, hense the facial expressions and the looks of "im trying not to cry". Seriously learn how 2 read ppl's expressions b4 u say stuff. MCR is the best and this song and video is great so if u dont like it go take a nap or somthin so u rnt grouchy and stop pms'ing and then ull love it!!I love u mcr xoxo!!!!

The fact that MCR has a huge and devoted following and also a group of people who truly hate them means that MCR is doing something right. If MCR made EVERYBODY happy then they would be indistinguishable and just like everyone else.

"I'm Not OK" does sound a bit teeny bopper but they have so many songs that are so much better than that one, I Love "Thank You For The Venom" "I'm Not OK" was a hit because it sounded like everyone else at the time. You can’t have a hit unless you sound like everyone else.

Which brings me to my second point, mediocre people with mediocre taste never like anything that is new. They want to hang on the old stale status quo. I remember how hip hop was hated in the 80's. It happened with Nirvana and Green Day in the early 90's. The people who hated them were listening to Fire House, Trixter, Jackyl and Winger at the time. Who?? Those guys were all over the radio and MTV but who the hell are they now. Everybody loved them at first. Nobody hated then at first and then they just faded away. Punk was hated too. I was a kid at that time but I remember ALL adults thinking that punk was the scourge of man kind. BTW, I am the same age as Billie Joe Armstrong. I am so glad that he did not let haters shut him up. THANK YOU BILLIE JOE!! ALL HAIL KING BILLIE JOE!!!!

Retarded 12 year old boys don't like MCR because they don't sing about pussy. The vast majority of MCR haters seem to fall into this category, except the age extends to 20 something even if the maturity level does not.

THE EVIDENCE OF MCR IS DOING EVERYTHING RIGHT IS IN KIND OF PEOPLE WHO HATE THEM AND HOW THEY HATE. Thank you haters. You are proving yourself wrong just by running your mouth.

Here is another good example, mediocre people loved Vanilla Ice and hated The Beastie Boys. We all know who won that contest. The right kind of people hating what you love is the best proof you can have of the thing that you love being unique and worthwhile.

YOU ARE JUST GOING TO HAVE ACCEPT THAT YOU WILL BE HEARING MORE AND MORE ABOUT MCR AND THAT THE ARMY OF DEVOTED MCR FANS IS GROWING BIGGER AND BIGGER EVERY DAY!!!!!!!!!!!

GET OVER IT!! WE WILL NEVER SHUT UP!! WE WILL NEVER GO AWAY!! YOU WILL NEVER CHANGE OUR MINDS!!

The detractors of MCY are inane. Anyone can be a critic. These guys put out some very good quality and complex music. Black Parade has 116 tracks, which makes it one of the most complex pieces of modern music.

I guess what I don't get, if you don't like the band don't listen to them. No one is holding a gun to your head, though to hear some of you complain you'd think that was the case. If I hear a song or band I don't like... I change the station, switch tracks, or pull the headphones off.

It's not that hard. Grow up people.

OMFG..
If you don't like the music, just turn it off. And people who DO like it, aren't always 13year-old Emo's. That's just stupid.
In that case you can also say that everyone who listens 50cent is black. Well, that isn't true too, right?
That they're just DIFFERENT from the rest of all those wannabe's, isn't bad. It actually makes them great.
Maybe Gerard is just shocked by how the world is. Does really every f*cking artist have to have lived a shitty life, before they can actually write a f*cking song?
Do they all have to have had a near-death experience before they can actually talk about dying?
Or do they all have to have cancer, before they can sing a song called "Cancer"? That sucks.
I really mean this.

You gotta know, half of al those wannabe-artists that are saying they had a shitty life, just f*cking lie.
They're just telling you that, so they DO can cry on f*cking stage, because the song "means something.".
Ever seen James Blunt on stage?
When he sang his song "No bravery" in the end he half cried. But he's aloud to do that, cuz he have seen that. Well, then can Gerard cry when he sings "Skylines and Turnstiles".
But he doesn't. He just expresses his emotions. And if that's crying, it's not bad.
Artist are also just people. And people cry, who cares?
So when you actually cry when you're walking on the street, you're emo. Yeah right. Maybe there's something wrong, but now everyone that cries is f*cking emo. That really sucks.
You don't know what people think, so shut the f*ck up!

Secondly it makes no sense to flame such a beautiful band as My Chemical Romance. The songs and the lyrics they produce are equally amazing. They have helped so many people through shit. I should know. And to think that there are people as small minded as some people who have ommented on this video really breaks your heart.

It seems like just being an mcr fan makes you different from everyone else. mcr truly have a clear message in their most recent album Black Parade its one of virtue and beauty...to be fearless in everything you do. never let fear stop you from doing what you believe in, its the only way to live. regardless of the bands bloody esthetics, campy attitude, exsessive make-up and flagrant emotionality they are saviors of the modern rock era. without a doubt they serve a higher purpose. its the music that matters and means so much to the fans without it mcr woudnt be what they are...the most inspirational band in the world

oh my. i don't think there's anything I could say that hasn't been said already. i do, however, find it funny, and greatly appreciate the fact that the most articulate arguments came from the people who *like* My Chemical Romance. Although you can clearly pick out the ones who couldn't seem to explain their love more than the fact that "omg, MCR is AMAzzzzinnng, stfu haters, GERARD IS SOOOOO HOTTT", there were also quality rebuttals and reasons for why people find them amazing, who acted in MCR's defense. which makes me wonder: to the people that hate MCR because of the generalization that all their fans are 13-year-old scene kids, ever think that maybe the older fans are tired of that too?

Hell, maybe that's what the video was about in the first place--that nothing is black and white.

sure MCR sounds like other bands. It's hard to make completely original music. entire genres are copies of others, and you'd have to work pretty hard not to let influences of music you love bleed into your own.

If you don't like MCR that's fine, I don't begruge you your opinion. But find an actual argument, if you're going to speak out against them, okay?

ps.if you haven't guessed it, yes, i like MCR. I think they're great. :D
pps. "hell bent on world domination" **snort**

I like it, kudos to Marc Webb for the video. I heard that this was only a UK single though, anyone know?

My Chemical Romance is a great band. They make disgustingly awesome albums and hire great people to direct their videos. Marc Webb is fantastic. I think the entire band puts on one helluva performance. They never imply that they "created brand new music" in fact they go as far as to have both guitar players talk about what bands influenced certain songs in the linear notes in the box set of "welcome to the black parade". These talented men do not advocate violence. Gerard Way even talks to fans inbetween songs to tell them violence isnt the answer, as well as speaking negatively about self mutilation and homophobes and men degrading women.
So before you compare this band to anything negative or call them emo maybe you should ask yourself why they have a massive fanbase made up of people of all ages, sexes, and races. They didn't sell 4 albums and a dvd because they suck, they sold them bc they have a great message and they give people hope,as well as terrific music and lyrics.Far from the opposite like becomming depressed, suicidal, murderers, or cutters. Gerard, Mikey,(Matt, Mikey's temp bassist), Frank, Ray, and Bob are all magnifacent human beings and they care about their fans.
** also its funny that so many people have nothing better to do than talk shit. If you dont like this band, don't listen. Sounds to me like you may just be the slightest bit jealous that a "30 yr old middle class man from NJ" is making more money and touching more lives than you'll ever come close to.***
Keep putting out records boys, your fans will always support you and make sure that you sell out every venue you play. Big ups to a fabulous band and fucking amazing records!!!!

This is an absolutely beautiful song and the video treatment by Marc Webb is incredible. I'm not surprised that many people see the similarity to Queen, another of my all-time favorites. I love the DRAMA! Call Gerard's singing anything you want, but he has hooked me and so has this video.

I am by no means a teeny bopper at age 36, so I dont fit into the demographics that you all keep talking about... Yet I find the bands songs upliftings, whilst dealing with some of the issues that our young teenagers face. I wonder if these people that are so happy to bag My Che have forgoten what it was like to be young, confused, emotional and not to mention hormonal. My Chem are growing up and their lyrics are changing with them. I find the theatrical drama in their video clips to be entertaining, or are some people so used to seeing half naked skanky girls they they can no longer see the artistry involved in the my chem clips. I really like this band, I like the videos, and I generally believe that if you dont have something positive to say, you should probably just shut up. Well done My Chem, thanks for giving our kids a band that sends all the right messages.

How dare you sarcastically ask him to show some emotion - this clip makes me cry BECAUSE he shows so uch emotion - he's so f.kn heart broken and when i watch it i feel sad because something so beautiful should never have to know how to express such intense pain, they should never have to know what that emotion feels like. you want emotion? ill giive you emotion with my foot up your a$$
