New Neil Young - "Dirty Old Man"/"The Believer"/"The Way"/"Spirit Road" (And Chrome Dreams II Album Art)

Chrome Dreams: The Sequel! But not really. In '76, Neil announced Chrome Dreams but never made good on the promise. So now we get the follow-up to that unheard LP, only this one's so definitely-coming-out that Neil's offered up four advance tracks as an appetizer. He calls it "an album with a form based on some of my original recordings, with a large variety of songs, rather than one specific type of song," and quick listens of the II tracks indeed show he's pulling from everywhere, and pulling well: donning his Godfather cap on the grungy "Dirty Old Man," working a soulful swing on "The Believer," joined by a chorus of sopranos on the piano track "The Way," rocking and kicking up dust on "Spirit Road." Start your listening party here:

I love Neil, and I've actually started to dig these tunes after a week repeated listens... but they're mediocre. As has been the case with a lot of his recent work. I wish he'd spend a little more time hammering this stuff out. Maybe tour with it a bit before putting it on a record.

I'll still enjoy it. I'm just saying...

Show added in DC on 11/16 at DAR.

Ive heard some of the tracks and they strike me as typical Neil, in and out of lots of stuff, not conforming to one road alone. I get a kick out of those that critique someone like Neil, or Bob, or Bruce, that every record is not some triple platinum killer......every album / CD / tape I've ever purchased is made worth it by one track or maybe more on that release.....show me one critic with a body of work like Neil, Bruce, Bob, Paul, etc......you cant, because their isnt one.

"all you Critics sit alone, you're no better than me for what you've shown".......

neil young DESTROYED last night in D.C. The first set allowed for dreamy contemplation after a long week at the grindstone. And, the second set, well the second set, was clearly a genius at work. Vascillated. Comfortable. Still exploring. Thank you, Neil. Though you've always been an "uncle" (like Bob and Paul) in a family that taught me to respect you, and I don't even know the name of the song that I now consider the BEST guitar jam I've ever seen/heard, I am now the grateful believer I always thought I would be, once I saw you.
