New Oasis Video - "The Shock Of The Lightning"
As far as strategies for sustained relevance go, Noel Gallagher's chronic case of verbal diarrhea is cheap and obvious. But occasionally the shit talking stench is so bad, (we try but) we can't help but talk about it. This other strategy, the one that involves the releasing of the new music or whatever, feels practically novel in their hands. And you know what, it's actually going pretty OK for them right now. To recap: "Falling Down" was different sounding and cool, and "The Shock Of The Lightning" is the shock of the nobody in its Oasis-y Oasisness. However the more we hear the latter, the more its Oasisosity has become palatable. Good, even. It's a good Oasis song. And the video is a good Oasis video. We sorta see the band performing, through screensaver and Hot Rocks effects, while superimposed flowers bloom and human history marches and images of love's magical mystery pop and shake and trip you out.
(Thank you much, Bill D. for the tip.)

Hot Rocks and Oasis-y goodness. Nice treatment, I like it.
Score = 2
"Magical Mystery" reference AND a visual duplication of the Rolling Stones' Hot Rocks album cover in the same song!? Good grief.

diggin the Brit rock return- so borred of the Brooklyn, NYC buzznet-a-rama-
oasis, verve, coral, zutons-
rock is supposed to be dangerous - williamsburg is no longer.
Score = 2
Dangerous? This sounds just like every Oasis song of the past 8 years. The video is kinda cool; but if they want to emulate the Beatles, they should know they would never be so musically stagnant.
Score = 0
Huge Oasis fan, but I am not a huge fan of the video. The collage parts are good, but I really dislike the band performance as it is never clear, steady, or close enough. I think you see other members of the band once. Also, the video reverses the image and makes them left handed at times(nobody in Oasis is left-handed)
Score = 0
Noel's left-handed and plays right-handed, but I get where you're coming from, though I haven't seen the video because I can't seem to view it from my part of the world. Darn copyright laws.

I would have loved this in 1996.
Now it just all seems hugely unnecessary.
Who knows, it probably would have been unnecessary in 1996 too.
Score = -4
i cant help but notice that you never admit you like Oasis even though you sound like you do .. same thing with Coldplay .. aren't they cool enough to just say you f*$#% like their music??????
Score = 3
This is a great comeback for oasis! I wasn´t a big fan of the hindu times and lyla but this song is their best since go let it out. Top video as well!
Score = 1
timeless music is where it's at- as commented above- this track would sound good in 1996, 2000, 1966, and now 2008- that's the mark of soul- this band writes good tunes, plays to arenas - 75% of bands blogged about will never taste a royalty check.
Score = 0

YOU HAVE NO FERAKIN CLUE. relevance? Tomorrow at 9am they will put 18 arena gigs on sale in the UK. By 9:07 they will all be gone. This band has sold sold 4 million or better on every CD that they have released round the world. There are very few bands that can make this claim since 1994. I wish we had 5 more like them....

Noel: Alright. Well if you're proud about getting thrown off ferries, why don't you go and support West Ham and get the **** out of my band and go and be a football hooligan? We're musicians, right? Not football hooligans.
Score = 0
Oasis try to sound like the Beatles and Stones. Oasis are not as good as the Beatles or Stones. An army of wannabe hipster douchebags desperate to showcase their unbelievably impresive musical wisdom quickly jump to this pointed conclusion. But who cares? This song makes me want to drive down the road at a hundred miles an hour.
Score = 2
this is a trip, i enjoy the song but the video not so much. Oasis will always kick ass to me. personally i prefer this song to the new Bloc Party... bye friends!
