New Old 97's Video - "Dance With Me"

thumbnail icon: New Old 97's Video - "Dance With Me"

The tangoing "Dance With Me" comes from countrified Dallas quartet Old 97's seventh studio album Blame It On Gravity. For the video, the guys send an asthmatic, bowlegged "Level-30 Alchemist" with a "Frack Me" t-shirt into a club in search of his beloved Tricia Helfer, who plays Number Six on Battlestar Galactica. This is where it becomes a Kung Fu flick homage, resulting in some elaborate synchronized fighting, including our hero surfing down the stairs on the back of one of the fallen bouncers. I've never watched Battlestar Galactica, but I'm trusting this lady's worth the fuss. She seems nice enough.

Interesting fact: In 2005, Old 97's frontman Rhett Miller received two votes in the annual Mr. Indie Rock poll.

Blame it On Gravity is out via New West.

i'm one Netflix slot away from a headlong binge into Battlestar Galactica. i feel like i've heard enough good stuff about it from people i don't know, but i have a feeling i have more in common with you guys, so ... worth it? (i'm not really into star trek-y stuff, but i hear that doesn't matter so much?)

Netflix it! I'm not a sci-fi person at all and I love the show. A friend introduced it to me about 2 years ago and it took me about a month to get through all the episodes that were out. It's one of the more consistently well-acted and well-written shows on television. I even have the season soundtracks.

Being a die-hard Old 97's fan, I was a bit surprised by the video. Any other fans out there that could explain the Battlestar link to me? I just don't get it...

That said, the album took me a few listens to grow on me and although it isn't Too Far To Care by a long shot, it's one of their better records.

Kudos for the Old 97's post.

I have a Frack Off shirt that I go running in sometimes... I feel like poser wearing it otherwise, I am not really that into the show. I worked on the mini-series that kicked off the series, and got some gear, but gave most of it away to fans.

it is sad sad times when we are at a point where a shirt that says "Frack Off" for no reasons makes someone feel like a "poser". That would only be true if you're claiming it's to be "ironic". ;)

Amrit, do it! I'm on season three and it's awesome. Better than Lost!

Band To Watch: Blank Dogs

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...

Quit Your Day Job: Megafaun

Raleigh-via-Eau Clair BTW Megafaun debuted impressively earlier this year with Bury The Square. The trio nip-and-tuck experimental tendencies (tape splicing, white noise colliding with banjo, junkyard-laced spring reverb, screeching feedback at the tail end of a quiet back porch lament)...
