New Pelican Video - "Dead Between The Walls"

thumbnail icon: New Pelican Video - "Dead Between The Walls"

Chicago/Los Angela instru-metallers (and Whole Foods workers) Pelican have a new highway-side video for City Of Echoes track "Dead Between The Walls." The album's been out a while, yes, but circumstances reared their head and the guys decided to make their first official video, shot at Saddleback Butte State Park, directed by David Kleiler, and paying homage to Kyuss' "Green Machine." As guitarist Laurent Schroeder-Lebec told Headbangers Ball:

We wanted sand, fast cars, blistering colors, and just a focus on rockin'. The loose narrative that plays out in the video came up later, and it's our embrace of the vocal-less approach of our band. (And how else were we going to include Juan Perez and Attie the pitbull?)

Exactly.

Amusing finale. It's also beautifully shot. And, looks like it took place in the same corner of the desert as Ladytron's "Ghosts," albeit with fewer short shirts. For those viewers outside the US: We'll hunt down an international embed ASAP.

City Of Echoes is out via Hyrda Head. Expect a new one in '09. Also, you can currently catch Pelican on tour with Thrice and Circa Survive. In the fall they hit the road with labelmates and Stereogum favorites Torche.

Had not heard Pelican before. At first this sounded like a backing track instead of a song but I soon realized I didn't really miss having a growly guy cover up the guitar work. Powerful!

The Herweg brothers live in Los Angeles now: So 1/2 the band's in Chicago and 1/2's in L.A.

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt
