New Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson Video - "Relator"

thumbnail icon: New Pete Yorn & Scarlett Johansson Video - "Relator"

We've been following Scarlett Johansson's music career because she covered Jeff Buckley, Tom Waits (with Dave Sitek), and because other reasons. Her latest endeavor is the Break Up LP, a set of Serge Gainsbourg/Brigitte Bardot-inspired duets with Pete Yorn, which so far has turned up the surprisingly effervescent and playful ditty "Relator." It's spelled terribly, maybe to help with its Google index, although then again projects involving ScarJo need little help in dominating internet search rankings. The track's official clip has Pete and Scarlett loving each other and wanting to be left alone, being relatorably couple-y and unrelatorably attractive, bringing some visuals to the pair's considerable chemistry. It may be unexpected that they sound so good together; that they look good together is probably a little less so.

Break Up is out 9/8 via Atco/Rhino.

whats this have to do with she and him? their music is not similar at all. actually this was made before she and him ever existed.

Um. They have nothing at all in common, musically. While you're making sweeping generalizations, why don't you compare them to The Kills or The White Stripes. Ugh, children.

don't think starfox was necessarily referring to a musical comparison of both duos. probably just the fact that each group features a starlett / songwriter pairing. not that far-fetched of a comparison if you ask me. but way to be rude for no reason.

Maybe nothing in common musically, but I could be talked into a threesome with both.

Since everybody's calling her scarjo, I'm surprised no ones thought to call him peyo yet.

I thought the first bit of the song was part of the advertisement... I would so get on her!

This is kind of nice - but it's one of those situations where there's so much other great music out there that there's no reason to listen to it. Maybe if there were an indie-music-armageddon I would go pick this up.

Wait...so because there's so much good music out there, you don't want to listen to any more good music?

No - because there's so much GREAT music out there I don't want to listen to slightly-above-average music.

Hot. And yes was recorded long before She and Him. You think writing catchy music that is actually good, is easy? No. I dig this. Look forward to hearing the rest.

I think this is a typo. The song is about Real Estate agents, and is supposed to say Realtor.

Come on. Tell me nobody else is getting a Ryan Adams feel from this. To Be Young? I kind of like it. She can sing to me anytime.

They are defintely trying to be like She and Him, but Scarlett's voice is not even close to as good as Zooey's.
