New Pictureplane Video - "Goth Star" (Stereogum Premiere)

thumbnail icon: New Pictureplane Video - "Goth Star" (Stereogum Premiere)

We've run through the core components of Travis Egedy aka BTW Pictureplane's one-man beatmaking brew: deep blend house, noise, synth pop, darkwave, psychedelia, world music, and most excellently, actual emotion. The stellar "Goth Star," an echoing and vocal-sampled comedown cut perfect for an after-hours dancefloor bliss out, is the next Dark Rift LP single to get a video, directed here by Sterling Crispin. And like "Trance Doll" it fits Pictureplane's low-tech approach -- noisy VHS film and superimposed images of Stevie Nicks, candle-lit seances, and a bunch of etc. designed to get you thinking non-linearly, or maybe not thinking at all, and just feeling. Or it could just be a bunch of disassociated images on shitty film print. It's up to you. After you watch.

This video and song is horrible! Vocals are not understandable, images are even worse and the composer is not a musician. Stevie Nicks is a real artist with talent and should not be included in this cut and paste crap focused on making a buck.

i don't understand the vocals in the majority of songs i adore.

"the composer is not a musician".... well, at least you're calling him a composer. sounds like he wrote that main synth riff so he must be a musician. google musician.

i doubt this guy is trying to make a buck. he's obviously just doing what he loves. if he was trying to make a buck off of Nicks, he would've crafted a more pop-oriented mashup instead of derivative work that includes many original layers.

really love the video! and the song uses samples DUH! but it is indiscernable from the original, and is my favorite song off the album. the 'found cult video' aesthetic is amazing, and syncs up with the footage in slight, but poignant moments. I applaud the MUSICIAN and director. bravo!

I disagree that the song is indiscernible from the original. Anyone who's heard 'Seven Wonders' would have recognized the melody instantly, but I admire how the song has been reinvented and I agree that it's an excellent video.

You guys need to look up the definition for indiscernible.
