New Ponytail Video - "Celebrate The Body Electric (It Came From An Angel)"

thumbnail icon: New Ponytail Video - "Celebrate The Body Electric (It Came From An Angel)"

Ponytail is not for everyone. But the best way to know if Ponytail is for you is to listen to "Celebrate The Body Electric (It Came From An Angel)," in all seven minutes of its ecstatic ambition. Until they entirely reinvent themselves it will be their signature song, so it's just as well that this is by far their showpiece video. It's a great visual interpretation of their loopy, spastic, sugar-buzzed jags and thrusts, mixing hypercolor backdrops and swirls to hypercut imagery, the violence of smashed fluorescent light rods and the juvenile joys of amusement parks/roller skating rinks/double dutch, perverted children's photos, and of course backdrops of psychedelic bursts that look something like kaleidoscopic spermy orgasms. Or something. Nice job, director Sophia Peer.

That was the most entertaining seven minutes of my life. I don't get out much.

Thanks for the introduction to Ponytail!

I'm still more fond of Kamehameha but this song is just epic. As is the video. The colour names and boat are my favourite touches.

I was feeling pretty shitty, and then this gave me a happy seizure, so, I guess I kind of solved a problem. Also, I am totally bringing my entire xtreme jumprope team to a Ponytails show

one of the most unique bands out there today, awesome video
when i try to describe Ponytail to a friend, i start with "they sound like_____" and then draw a blank (maybe Deerhoof?) and just describe them as "fucking______" (crazy, weird, incredible, mind-blowing, experimental, fun"
I guess they sound like how E would sound if it morphed into a band

If E had a band, it would be called Eels.

You're thinking of Vision Creation Newsun by Boredoms. That's what they sound like.

yea, I tried this the other day too and came up with "Born Ruffians meet Mars Volta in a garage." this was my first exposure to the band and I'm really stoked about them - just ordered their latest lp

Been listening to this repeatedly. Would it be weird to compare this to no-wave? Because that's what I love about it. Can't wait to hear more from them.

amazing video, and works for this song (she didn't sing that much) This ponytail chick and the chick from Deerhoof should get together and put an album out called "we are not going to ruin good musicianship anymore". great bands, terrible singing.
