New Radiohead Video - "House Of Cards"
Radiohead's posted the new video for the In Rainbows come-hither slow jam "House Of Cards," and fittingly, it's got lots of shots of Thom making sultry bedroom eyes. Maybe? Tough to say for sure, mostly because none of the Yorke images, nor any in the entire clip, were generated with cameras. Or light. Instead, "3D plotting technologies collected information about the shapes and relative distances of objects" and the "video was created entirely with visualizations of that data." Right. Why just talk in maths when you can fully manifest in them? Totally weird and yet totally accessible and moving, but it's Radiohead so, no surprises.
Thanks to you, gorillavsbear.blogspot.com. I don't know how you can't be at least marginally interested in how that thing was made, and since I assume Geometric Informatics and Velodyne LIDAR aren't your most fluent languages, you should probably just watch this Making Of so you can sound smart when you email it to your friends:
No matter what you do, click this link and explore the data visualizations in the video. So cool, and this way you can explore the contours of Thom's face in stimulating new ways (nullus). When you're finished downloading the data for the video and have made your own, upload it to the House Of Cards YouTube Group page. So far there's only one -- Radiohead's. Never thought it possible, but just maybe we're approaching the ceiling of the Radiohead fanbase's obsession with participatory interactivity. (Probably not, but remixes are, like, easier).

awesome.
I guarantee that embedded youtube quality doesn't do this video justice. I can't wait to see it in high definition.
Score = 1
In the making-of video, the "Florida cul-de-sac" where they're shooting looks like it's about 3 blocks from my old junior high school in Miami.
And lo and behold, the 1st assistant director, Larry Zience (identified at 3:40) is in fact a guy I went to junior high with. Weird.

wait - is this write-like-gabe (nullus) day here on 'gum?

he's infectious.

Is it supposed to be so flickery? Looks like they recorded it with all those high tech gadgets and then mastered the result onto a well-used 20-year old VCR tape.. the old-school laser dot look is pretty cool, though.

totally unremarkable, genius love the idea, quality data manipulation, love it.

It suits In Rainbows quite a bit.
a) It's experimental and even if it has been done before, they will get all the cred.
b) They will never do it again.
It's pretty sweet even though it seems all the worst songs on In Rainbows are becoming singles.
Dr. David Thorpe said it perfectly...
"Radiohead is the sort of dopily dissonant, synth-mashing, warbling, British crap that passes for cutting edge these days. Their Internet fans are legion, their pretentious and egotistically dull albums continue to sell, and the people who malign the good name of critics by calling themselves as much incessantly drool over Radiohead like they've got platinum bars shooting out of their jocks."

fuck off, trent reznor and maybe stop whining about how no one wanted to pay for that saul williams album.
maybe.

Nine Inch Nails sucks.
Score = 3
Yeah, that does sound like the kind of pretentious bullshit that the real Reznor would say.

gorgeous video. they always have such great ideas, whether or not anyone has "thought of" doing a music video in this sort of way. I doubt Radiohead were competing for first prize of anything. the video to me is sort of creepy, though... it suits the song. which is not creepy. one of my favourites off the album.
there's always gonna be Radiohead haters out there... they all say the same thing. iknowwhatyouarebutwhatami etc.
it's hard to not be jealous of such a brilliant band.
Score = 2
Everything Radiohead does is so much cooler than everyone else.

wow! that's some really crazy stuff, leave it to Radiohead!

Boring song and an even more boring video.

"Radiohead, the kings nerdy, boring, tuneless rock music, are on top of the world. They’ve proven time and time again that they can piss directly into your open mouths, and you’ll frolic and gargle in the yellow stream like God himself was giving you a nectar-bath. Loathsome pseudo-intellectual college boys used to have ponytails; now they have Radiohead. God help you, you stupid, gullible infants."
