New Robin Sparkles Video - "Let's Go To The Mall"

From tonight's How I Met Your Mother, one of the greatest fake music videos in sitcom history (not much competition there, but still...). It's aboot the mall, and it has a robot!

For context, watch the episode on Innertube.

What's that? You want the tune on your Zune? Done and done!

Is this what Alanis sounds like?

Seriously, we know you're corporate now, but can you please stop schilling the Zune? The thing is ugly as sin and is making a mockery of the indie demographic with its marketing strategy.

Indie is now a demographic? Interesting.

Personally, indie means nothing.

I am officially going to the secretary of state tomorrow, and changing my name. I NEED to be Robin Sparkles.

But seriously...did Tiffany and Debbie Gibson have a secret Canadian love child?

mad props for the keytar, yo

Steve, the joke's on you. You forgot to complain about how Britney Spears isn't indie and how Danzing could TOTALLY kick Danny from the North Side Kings' ass if he hadn't surprised him.

Loves it, but I have a hard time imagining how a sitcom can manage to come to a standstill for 3 whole minutes for a music video. Not that the few episodes I've caught of this show didn't indicate similar pacing problems.

I can't believe that is Alanis Morisette. I never knew she was a cheesy teen dance/pop singer. That's hilarious!

The robot is so good. Especially when she taps it on the shoulder and it looks the wrong way.

Or just the way she sings "about."

Also, "hair like Gretzky".

Golden.

while this long enough to be an actual song and busier, my favorite fake music video was on the show Popular, in the episode where one of them loses their virginity.

the song was Lollipop - Petting Zoo, and a close parody of the lewd pop r 'n' b garbage that teens listen to.

the lyrics went something 'be my petting zoo/pet my silky fur. something something i want your hands on me alot'

the best part is the song is actually good enough to be a real pop song.

excellent.

but best music video in a sitcom would still have to be "if you don't know me by now" by david brent.

Hey everybody ... let's go to the mall! I wonder if this will be said throughout offices today.

WAIT A SEC ...
Am I going nuts or, on this video, is there a very subtle audio track layered over the song. It sounds like people talking and laughing at points... Like someone left a mic on. Can someone confirm?

choice, I thought I was the only one who remembered "Petting Zoo". Popular was wonderful... I have all the episodes here.

Now I can't stop singing "be my petting zoo/touch my silky fur" (which by the way are the exact lyrics).

And that video reminded me of the video for "Cool on Your Island", by Tori Amos (or rather Y Kant Tori Read). So cheesy.

I like how they explain that she would really be too young to be an '80s mall pop star.

"The eighties didn't come to Canada until '93."

Does anyone know the code to embed the video, like stereogum has done? I'd like to put it on a blog too...

Holy crap, I saw this last night and was laughing. Hard.
That tv show is actually really, really good. It surprises me for some reason. I mean, CBS? Who knew!

Robin Sparkles... best name ever.

Listen to the way she she repeatedly sings "Todaaay" toward the end.

Yeah, Alanis was a teenybopper queen before she got all jagged, but there was a Canadian singer who was even more bubble-gummier than her: Candi.
'Under Your Spell' was her biggest, umm, hit.

Try repeating that "todaaay to-da-aaayy" backing vocal at the end to your wife (or whoever) for a few hours and see what happens. The results are hilarious.

Couldn't get past the first 30 seconds of this video. No offense but I thought it sucked and was not funny. If somebody would tell me the joke here I would appreciate it.

I love it. I didnt realize they'd created a whole video since they only showed snippets on the show. Awesome. It's details like this that make me love that show.

I thought I was going crazy hearing muffled voices on the track, too...
This was okay, but not nearly as good as Zack Attack.

In 1945, a young girl namd Katu Lata Kulu came over to America in a grey boat from Africa. A mysterious man killeed her by carving the word "LATUALATUKA" into her back. Now that you have read this message, she will come to your house on a full moon and steal your soul unless you follow these directions: retype this message to 3 other vidios.
