New Sea & Cake Video - "Weekend"

thumbnail icon: New Sea & Cake Video - "Weekend"

As its title might suggest, the Sea & Cake's new video for "Weekend" arrives right on time for each of our individual weekends. It comes from their forthcoming eighth album Car Alarm, which follows last year's Everybody. The clip opens with a kid flipping into a body of water then trails a pack of teens outside the house (and its numbing video games) to a bike ride, candy (stealing, eating), girls, under-the-bridge rock throwing, a boat, more water, etc. Their soundtrack's the Sea & Cake in electro-infused mode -- until they venture back to land and wander into the woods.

And then it returns in time for that sunset, those fireworks. Yesterday, someone commenting on the new Crooked Fingers called Eric Bachmann "pre-blog." These guys qualify for that term as well. If you take one step backwards and count frontman Sam Prekop's work in Shrimp Boat, Archer Prewitt's in the Coctails, and John McEntire in his entirety, you could make a case for even grander terms. At this point, great to see they're still pushing their sound.

Car Alarm is out 10/21 via Thrill Jockey. They're on shortly thereafter:

This is one of the freshest vids I've seen in a long time and totally takes me back to being 13-14 again.

Thanks for posting it; I love me some Sam Prekop!
