New Shins Video - "Phantom Limb"

Hit mtvU to watch the first video from Wincing The Night Away, directed by Patrick Daughters. We'd love to tell you something more about the clip, but MTV hates Macs so we can't even watch it! All we know is that everyone appears to be sitting, Jesse Sandovol has a Ludwig kick, and Martin Crandall is playing a Korg.

Maybe one of you can tell us something else about it? Like, do they ever get up from those chairs? Is the backdrop curtain really that red? Does James convincingly lip-synch? Anything you got would be just dandy.

UPDATE: YouTube don't hate no Mac.

wtf.

features historical acts played out by mostly children - crusades, joan of arc, huddled masses, indians being slaughtered by white man, injustice and oppression, yadda yadda... little girl dressed as angel saves the day by making everything white.

the shins remain seated for the duration.

yawn.

Yawn indeed. Everyone looks bored, from the Shins to the child actors.

And after even just the first few bars, I think I had joined their ranks.

i don't know, i thought it was cool. child conquistadors, animal sacrifices, a little girl gets burned at the stake, lots of death. i think they were supposed to look kinda bored.

Hightlights:
1. Little girl with giant sword as Joan of Arc - great role model!

2. Marty dressed as an Aztec while a kid cuts off a sheeps head as a sacrifice to the Spaniards. Sweet.

3. Closing with witch burning and freezing pilgrims. Gnarly!

I counter the bored comment with the fact that it's somber subject matter and the video and song stick with the theme. If you want some happy shiny screen action go watch the cartoon network, or perhaps there wasn't enough half naked chicks and club scenes to keep your interest.

BOOYA!

There were more than enough half-naked chicks for me! Or did I just imagine those kids naked?...

Ok, sorry...

Frankly, I thought this was the best Shins video. The Aztecs and Spainards fighting was just brilliant. I didn't find it boring at all.

I love the Shins, but I do not love this song. I couldn't sit through the dozy vid. Maybe I'll try again later.

Featuring backing vocals from Anita of Viva Voce. The song is 80's good times. As for the video, I have a Mac, so...yeah.

I'm really liking the album. They may play out like some boring troubadours, but the music is really masterful and yeah, you can definetly tell they "stretched out" a bit and also in what kind of directions. I like it

I wish I could get into it. Its just all too dull. It's music great for times you cant really listen to music, those times you want noise but not noise that will distract you from your present task. I forgot i was actually listening to new Shins about a quarter of the way through this track. Why listen to 'boring troubadours' when they must be some exciting ones out there.

I completely agree, at least about the song. The track is a snoozefest... and that is unfortunate as they are one of my favorite bands... however, the video is pretty great. I enjoyed the visuals, while unintentionally completely zoning out on the song.

Screw all you who dont like the song and or the video. they are both fuckin amazing and you need to learn to fuckin appreciate what is still good and original out there.

the song is good...this is actually the first shins song I've heard. do all of their songs sound like the smiths/morrissey? if not, this song definately seems like an homage to the smiths...

Am I the only person in the world who thinks James Mercer looks ALOT like Kevin Spacey? Seriously, he does.
