New Smashing Pumpkins Video - "Tarantula"

In which we learn for what those green screens were to be used: to more easily incorporate faux-Pumpkins without Billy having to meet-and-greet 'em; so an array of Mac screen savers could rule the horizon line; and so that Billy can shoot frickin' lasers out his eyes, seamlessly and without looking bizarre and eccentric just for the sake of it (wouldn't want that). Don't worry, there's something for the old-school Billy lovers, too! Take it to 3:21 for a one-second shot of Corgan sans shower curtain. (via AOL's Spinner site)

Figured I better start this thread with a positive note since I know somebody's going to inevitably rip at this video and the new album.

Great and fun video from the Pumpkins. Great album too - fits perfectly into the catalogue!

Good song. Blah video. I am really enjoying the album. It has an enjoyable listen so far. Enjoy That's the Way (My Love Is). Should have been the first single.

I'm digging the video. Lots of fun and the song rocks.

I see Trapcode Particular was used at 3:30 and that's a preset, I think! They totally went nuts with the plug-ins. Billy is kind of looks like a heaven's gate member, but better that than a vampire. Nice to see him in white.

I can't wait for the album. LOVE this song.

Ok, so I'm liking the song more each time I hear it (but I'm still not loving it like old SP). The video's pretty boring, non-descript, and a possible rip-off of RHCP's "Tell Me Baby." And I had a hard time figuring out who, aside from Billy and Jimmy, was supposed to be actual members of the new band. Oh well.

The song is good, but that video is complete shit.

Does it really take that many musicians to make that song? If so, that's insanely sad. At most it should take, like.. 5 people. Tops. I really hope it's some kind of joke.

That is fab. I love how low-fi it is. Plus all of the people, it's a total play on the question..who are the smashing pumpkins.
love it

I'm not a Pumpkins fan, but I have to admit I like the Rael meets Father Yod aesthetic happening here.

The video was kind of lifeless, I thought. The only one who showed any significant enthusiasm was, uh, Ginger? Is that her name? The video's just really dull and cheap looking. But I suppose it's better to be cheap in a lo-fi sense, than to be cheap in a "we threw every ounce of crappy CGI that we could afford into making this a 'badass' video" sense.

Not a huge fan of the song. It has moments, but they're too few.

Not a hate per sé.

Pumpkins can do what they want but I'm going to pretend Gish was the last album they made on my planet*.

*This is the same place where there are no Ewoks and The Matrix never had sequels.

Great... Now I have a visual to accompany the audio of this "band" dying a slow, extremely painful death.

I think the last decent video they did was "Perfect" cause it actually told a story. Remember when music videos used to have meaning? Like Today, Rocket, 1979. Those were visually amusing and told a coherent story. I miss that era of MTV. But this? I just feel decieved.

They got it all wrong. When they couldn't get Iha and D'arcy, they should have just been a duo. Jimmy and Billy could have been the new Meg and Jack, especially with Billy's guitar chops. Instead, he's dancing around with the mic stand and NO GUITAR. What the hell? 10 new Pumpkins, be they Pumpkins or not (I'm thinking not), just cancel each other out.

B-O-R-I-N-G. Billy comes back after all these years and this is the best he can come up with to reel people in? Paris Hilton and top 40 radio worthy rock? Come on...His outfit is awesome though! It's so unique and artsy, coool.

Evan, those arent real members, half the time it doesnt look like they can even play instruments. Its more of a fan video like that red hot chili peppers one, only not totally fucking stupid.

I'm starting to like the song more too. Wouldn't sound too out of place as a MCIS b-side (and thus on TAFH).
The video isn't awful, but it's not great either - and I'm not digging the new members. I can't see why they couldn't at least have got Mellissa back on bass. Still can't wait for the album. I'm not touching any fucking leaks until launch day.

Is that girl to the left in the video just there to pretend she's singing, or is she eye candy the director threw in there to distract us from the Pumpkins' increasingly ridiculous costumes?

teradeloo, smashing pumpkins. the billy is not a person, the billy is pure light and energy. this is so over-the-top in a "oh, so THAT's how iMovie works!" kind of way. cool.

and the album isn't half bad. who would've guessed?

Stop at Gish? Siamese Dream is one of the best rock albums of all time.... bold but true. But yes, a world without Ewoks and Matrix sequels would be good enough for me to say goodbye to it.
