New Stills Video - "Snake-Charming The Masses"
We're hearing the Stills are close to releasing their third LP, which is perfect timing to capitalize on the buzz from their set at Rachael Ray's indie rock SXSW showcase (go ahead and make fun of it, music bloggers, Rachael has five jobs so she doesn't have time to care about your snark). That would make "Snake-Charming The Masses" the first single and the first video from the album that is yet to be named. It's a sort of bleak and dire title, and so a bleak and dire tune (rimclicks, toms, and a pedal point march). Guess the extended shot of a burning house falls into that "bleak" category, too.
The Stills new one will be out one day via Arts & Crafts.

My friend knows a friend...apparently this isn't the "single" but rather just one of the first finished tracks from the album. I heard some killer new stuff during one of their shows in the fall. Really excited for this one.

this is a killer track!

I hope this isn't the new single - this song sucks. At least it sounds like this album will sound more like Logic Will Break Your Heart.

really cool song. sounds great loud. about time!

terrible video, droning song. Lola Stars & Stripes and Still in Love destroys this easily. There be some redeeming songs on this album.

i always, liked the stills, despite their earlier comparisons to joy division (whatever that means) but i can't help but feel this is fairly radiohead derived. snakecharming indeed. still, it sounds good.

they performed this song at their show in hoboken last night, and will probably do it again for their show at the bowery ballroom tonite. it's very energetic live. (i find that quite a few of their songs have a theme of mixing bleakness and a primal--almost sexual--energy together.) some of the new stuff sounds great, and apparently the band went to eastern europe and africa (if you believe them) to write the new album. i'm looking forward to its release. will stereogum consider interviewing the stills for one of the gumdrop issues? there's a lack of interviews with them on the internet.
