New Tilly & The Wall Video - "Beat Control" (Stereogum Premiere)

thumbnail icon: New Tilly & The Wall Video - "Beat Control" (Stereogum Premiere)

Tilly & The Wall's sophomore album Bottoms Of Barrels came out almost two years ago. The tap-dancing ex-Park Ave. Nebraskans won't have a third full-length out until the summer, but there is a new single forthcoming in early March to satiate fans. The video for the lead track "Beat Control" is pretty darn Deee-Lite-ful, but whereas Lady Miss Kier was all about the groove in her crew's hearts, here the rhythm is in Tilly & Co.'s blood and their souls. We're not biology experts, but that's kinda more extensive, right? The day-glo dance-fest was directed by Cody Critcheloe and Drew Bolton of Ssion, the K.C. crew that remixed Glass Candy. Things to consider before watching: Why does that happy hippie dude think freedom sucks? Tilly seems to try on CocoRosie's "Rainbow Warriors" robe toward the end, but then she gets Joan Of Arc on us. Also is it just us or does that one person look like vintage-era Boy George, but reincarnated as Krishna? Let us know.

We already can't stop singing this thing. That's not hyperbole.

"Beat Control," which won't be on the album, is coming out 3/4 as a three-track 7" single and digitally, both via Team Love (or the band on their upcoming tour with Capgun Coup). The digital release also comes with bonus track "Cacophony," sorry seven-inchers. Expect a full-length in the summer. Expect tour dates now:

02/28 Pomona, CA @ Glasshouse
02/29 Los Angeles, CA @ The Echo
03/02 San Francisco, CA @ Rickshaw Stop (NoisePop Festival)
03/04 Portland, OR @ Doug Fir
03/05 Seattle, WA @ Chop Suey
03/08 Omaha, NE @ Waiting Room
03/16 Atlanta, GA @ Drunken Unicorn
03/17 Carrboro, NC @ Local 506
03/18 Washington, DC @ Rock N Roll Hotel
03/19 Philadelphia, PA @ First Unitarian Church
03/21 New York City, NY @ Knitting Factory
03/22 Boston, MA @ Middle East
03/24 Cleveland, OH @ Grog Shop

wow, i totally agree. this song sounds nothing like old T&TW (not that different is always bad, but in this case...). It sounds more like a Latoya Jackson song.

Anyone who says anything bad about Tilly risks defenestration. Fuck y'all. I hate you and you suck. Tilly is going to sneak into your room while you're sleeping and steal your pancreas for sale on the black market if you mess with them. I'm serious. They did it to my cousin Dave.

This is sarcastic right ? It actually is the opposite of creative.. just poorly aping 80's dance pop instead of trying to write anything halfway original.

well this song isn't on the album, so i'm going to assume that it isnt' like the rest of the album. there's a b-side on the digital single. i'm going to wait to judge until i hear that or the whole record

Singles are often dance songs. They can do this AND stuff like their old stuff. Have you heard the most recent Daytrotter session with Chandelier? Just because this is dance song and doesn't feed your xemoXdarkXcorexsoul doesn't mean it's not good. (It is a little repetitive, though. Love it anyway.)

"Come on shake your body baby, do the cong-a. You know you can't control yourself any long-a."

I'll agree that it's kinda infectious, but I don't expect the novelty to last anywhere near as long as the flavor of this Fruit Stripe gum I'm chewing on.

Wait. Aw, shit.
