New Travis Video - "Closer"

You guys were psyched to hear (and read) "Big Chair" from Travis's forthcoming, Godrich-and-Eno helmed record The Boy With No Name. The first single and vid from the record, however, is "Closer," which, sadly, is a less exciting tune. And the vid being shot in a grocery store doesn't do much to counter that, but it's cute enough. The book of piano-based, melodramatic Brit rock insists upon -- especially after "Yellow" and every other Coldplay video ever -- at least one shot of lead singer in slow-motion with direct camera-to-eye contact; Fran does it well, but then, he wrote the book. More comedian cameos, too; stay tuned to watch slapsticking Ben Stiller deliver a double take! His finest physical comedy since Meet The Fockers, and getting us psyched for Little Fockers.

The Boy With No Name is out 5/7 on Independiente in the UK.

Decent tune, and I like the video. They've always been good about injecting a sense of humor into many of their videos. Definitely a better lead single than "Re-offender" off the last album.

I have high hopes that are tempered by the mediocracy of their recent releases.

Why does Fran's mouth keep moving across his face when he smiles?

Sorry, but as much as I love Travis, nothing will get me psyched for Little Fockers. Nothing.

At one of my local supermarkets they've had the same CD playing for at least a year now, and Travis are on it. Is that just my store, or is it universal? Are they a band for supermarkets and in that case are they making fun of themselves in this video?

does anyone hear some auto-tune on this?

godrich used to use that as an effect...

This sounds like a potential prom night last dance song. Don't know if that's a good thing or not, but it is what it is.

Travis lost me on the last record, but so far they've got me on this new one. I'm loving this and the last tune. Nice work on them lads.

they've been releasing one song a week from the new record on their myspace...i think they're up to number 7 or so at this point. i have to say...the last record didn't thrill me but the new tunes are really great pop songs and his voice, which was always great, imo, has gotten even better.
