New U2 Video - "Get On Your Boots"

thumbnail icon: New U2 Video - "Get On Your Boots"

U2's new vid (directed by Alex Courtes, who also did "Vertigo") finds the band performing in outer space, shrunken in front of a skull, candy apples. clenched fists, a ceramic Aphrodite bust, and the Virgin Mary draped in an American flag. It's Bono's garage sale obviously, though he probably didn't sell anything on account of the bomb explosions. We also see a sexy lady cop, in sexy boots and an unsexy fake mustache. There's a lot going on, you may need to watch it twice. Coolest effect: during the bridge when the lens cracks every time Larry hits the snare. Mr. Edge explained it all to Hot Press earlier this week: "It's based around the idea that men have fucked things up so badly, politically, economically and socially that it's really time we handed things over to women. We had our doubts when we saw a rough cut - but the finished video is brilliant. He's really nailed it."

No Line On The Horizon is out 2/27 on Interscope.

You're so young and naive you use phrases like "lolz," and you're asking ME if I was born in 1994? You've never even heard of all the bands U2 have ripped off. I think you should go back to suckling your fat mother's teet and leave the internet to the adults.

Syd... I would beat your ass into the pavement if I ever saw you. I'm not even addressing whether you're right or not, you are an abusive little prick who spews venom because of your own low self-esteem. Don't bother arguing, everybody can see it just from your pissy comments - and I don't mean the merits of your arguments, but rather the way you feel empowered to treat your fellow human beings. Fix your own issues, you don't have the right to spew on other people, you hateful contemptible little toad.

Syd, Remember in the 80's when U2 invented modern rock? Probably not.

"Invented modern rock." Hahahah! Just further proof that all U2 fans are inbred idiots.

First of all you're too ignorant to know about bands like The Clash and The Boomtown Rats, both of whom U2 ripped off extensively.

Secondly if it's from the 1980s it's 25 years old and CLASSIC, not MODERN.

U2 are 3 chord wonders and the most overrated hacks on the planet.

Your inability to respond to others without using insults is an interesting sign of your intelligence. No, U2 did not invent modern rock, far from it.

However, from Unforgettable Fire up through Zooropa they were at a creative peak that has influenced bands such as Elbow and Radiohead heavily, and both of those bands not only admit it, but also cite U2 as a major influence. This is a simple and undeniable fact. Whether you are willing to accept it or not does not make it any less true.

That is all.

None of you guys could even write a song much less have a band that could last at least a decade. All of you are nobodies and will never be anything in life. Your only muse is to talk shit on the internet. None of you have the balls to back your shit up in real life so you feel like you have balls talking shit on the net. All of you guys work jobs you hate you never had any dreams to be someone beyond your means. All of you will wilt away having never accomplished anything in your little lives. U2 have conquered the 80s, the 90s and now the millennium. They are worth every grammy they have ever achieved. Think about how ugly you guys really are. Maybe you should take a look in the mirror and ask yourself who the real dick is. LOL. U2 is still the Biggest and Best Band in the world.

Yeah, because women are so straightforward with everything they mean, *never* try to deceive anyone, or twist logic to justify *anything*!

That logic is just another form of subtle sexism. "Women are weak, so no one would fight if they were in charge!"

Or that women simply aren't inclined toward physical aggression and use other ways to fight.
I always thought that a world run by women might have many cold wars but significantly less bloodshed. Countries would talk about each other behind their backs and just avoid confrontation altogether.

As a record label, wouldn't you want this video posted all over the friggin' internet? Wouldn't you want this spread wider than Paris Hilton? Just a thought Universal. It is 2009. I really believe U2 deserve a little more respect in this modern landscape. Yes, there last album was hideous but as a journalist, and as someone who has heard the album, I can say it really is quite a moving, cohesive album. This song is the weakest on the album but comes at a point where the album needs a lighter tone.

I honestly feel a lot of you will be surprised when hearing the album. There are no weak, middle of the road moments and it reminds me very much of the transition between Rattle & Hum and Achtung Baby.

Anyway, thats my two Bob. I know Bono can be a bit of a tool but it's refreshing to still have an international band that can fill out a stadium anywhere. Plus, a band that cna release such a quality, innovative album at this stage in their careers. Give the album a spin, you'll end up buying it.

Blah, blah , blah - The new record will sell millions, win awards and the world tour will sellout every show with or without the idiots on this site! The new record will go down as one of their best. Boots may be the weakest song on it. The tour, like all the other U2 tours (I seen every US tour) will be awesome. To the haters, go listen to your boring, whimpy indie crap bands that couldn't even open for the U2's, Radioheads and Springsteens of the world. Superstars are superstars for a reason.
