New Ungdomskulen Video - "Modern Drummer" (Stereogum Premiere)

When we were in Norway a couple years ago, Ungdomskulen was mentioned to us a few times, largely for their technical prowess. At the time, though, nobody mentioned that the power trio could use their instruments to shoot down 8-bit aliens or that the drummer owned some sort of levitating Cloud City. We probably should have asked. Regardless, the goofy, proggy Norwegian band's Cry-Baby gets lots of spins around here, and the acid-drenched video for "Modern Drummer" more than does the standout justice. Which is a massive understatement. We can't even begin to describe this.

"5:9." Did you catch that? Ungdomskullen have a show at SXSW: They go on at midnight on Thursday, 3/13 @ Maggie Mae's Roof Top as part of the Great Escape Fest Showcase. They're also touring the States this spring (dates tba_. For now, if you want/need more info, go to their label page. If you don't feel like going anywhere, here's the "radio edit" of "Modern Drummer." People still have radios?

We kid.

Cry-Baby is out on Ever.

saw them play at Union Hall sandwiched between two unbelievably shitty bands. They were totally awesome to watch, good stage moves, lots of sound from three dudes, they have lots of fun on the stage and it translates to the crowd. Pretty much if Fort Thunder and Scandinavia in general had a baby

definitely an amazingly technical band and fun to watch. but, seriously what makes them great is their personalities. have you seen their myspace photos.. total hams. plus, uncensored interview got some great clips of them from SXSW. i think this one is my favorite...

Blank Dogs are actually singular: It's the insanely prolific one-man Brooklyn-based band of Mr. Blank Dog. We don't know too much about the biography of the guy behind the bedroom new-wave pop/punk and he's usually covering his face with masks...
