New Vampire Weekend Live Video - "I Stand Corrected"

Straight off their yacht, David Byrne's year-end list, and MTV and into the shadowy studio of Indie 103.1 FM, Vampire Weekend have given us the second look/listen of something new from the forthcoming XL release that wasn't on the BTW-worthy Blue CD-R (via P4K).

They really sound great, bubbling along with that sparkling clean lilt. Nice cable knit sweater, by the way. You can take the boys out of the yacht, but you can't take the yacht out of the boys! We kid: Wonder if the new record's going to have a nautical theme? Worried, Colin Meloy?

If anyone else saw them in Cleveland, He explained the story behind the sweater - it's his mom and his ex-stepfather's father gave it to her because he was drunk and wanted her to fit in with the family (it's a Portuguese fisherman's sweater if anyone is curious). don't know if that helps anyone but I thought i'd contribute my two cents. otherwise, great song

Can someone please explain the appeal of Vampire Weekend?

Painfully dull, safe and uninspired — their music and their fans.

Mr. Gladwell,

I think I've found a case study for your next book. They're called Vampire Weekend and you can currently find out more about them...well, everywhere.

They aren't interesting enough to be hateable. Very Meh.

chris,

6 months ago I would have written you off as as a loony, but even someone with the most basic understanding of math who pays attention to economics can see that we are barreling towards a serious recession that, if we want to call a spade a spade, will probably be a depression. Yes, despite Bush's ill-advised subprime rate freeze.

So how will this type of music sound in the context of rampant unemployment and poverty? We'll be living in the economic conditions that gave rise to the idealistic and passionate folk of Woody Guthrie, or the anger of late 70s British punk. How will Vampire Weekend fare? Sure it's cute, but is that what people will want anymore? Do they want to see these kids on a yacht? Even if they're "in on the joke?"

I love Indie 103.1, but Brent Bolthouse and Danny Masterson are the biggest douches on radio. Their Feel My Heat show could use less of them and more of the music, although their taste in music is a little too trying-too-hard-to-be-hip for me. Idiots.

But I love Vampire Weekend!
