New Vampire Weekend Live Videos - "Mansard Roof" / "The Kids Don't Stand A Chance"

The most fabulous La Blogothèque crew summoned VMPRWKND to their side of the world, took them hostage, robbed them of their amplifies, stuffed them into a van, and forced them at camerapoint to perform a private rendition of "Mansard Roof." Kinky bastards they are, they videotaped the whole thing.

The buzz band exploitation continues post-jump, where the beleaguered Ivy Leaguers tellingly sing "The Kids Don't Stand A Chance," from behind bars, sequestered in La Blog HQ's private, fenced parking lot.

Vampire Weekend will be released 1/29 on XL. Vampire Weekend the band may never be.

I'm of two minds about these guys. On the one hand, the whole prep-school rich-kids aspect makes me sort of ill. Not that such people have no business making music, but it sort of makes me want to slap them. It's probably all just a put-on, though. I also can't stand it when the singer does his painfully blatant Britt Daniel impression.

On the other hand, some of their songs are okay.

As we pass saturation point for press coverage of Montreal, Portland, Brooklyn and et cetera, it seems Lawrence, Kansas is poised for its coming turn in the music media trend piece carousel. At least from what we're hearing; this marks...

Quit Your Day Job: Ungdomskulen

The Bergen trio Ungdomskulen play proggy post punk, mixing chops and hooks with a sense of humor. But they don't sound like Primus. When I was in Norway a couple years ago, "Ungdomskulen" seemed to be on everybody's lips (or...

Premature Evaluation: Beck - Modern Guilt

It's been some time since we learned Modern Guilt, Beck Hansen's eighth album, would be some sort of psych rock minimalist '60s trip with Danger Mouse. Since then, we've gotten a look at the old-school jazz/Blue Note-style cover art and...
